Junior: Keystone has a rigorous and challenging curriculum, but they suffer from not-so-great new hire teachers. With the departures of great teachers (and more departures are coming), the school has had to hire new teachers with minimal experience. Do not expect much from the foreign language department; it is severely lacking as a result of poor new-hire teachers. The teachers in general are a mixed bag—there are some excellent, world-class teachers and some teachers that are not up to "Keystone" standards. That being said, Keystone is still an excellent school. The level of academic and college preparation Keystone provides is one of the best you can find in San Antonio, let alone Texas (especially in STEM). I can proudly thank Keystone for providing me with the support, knowledge, and resources that have fueled my academic achievements. Senior: I started at SMH as a Freshman, and quickly realized I made the best decision possible. The opportunities I’ve gained like a marine biology course in Hawaii and a history experience in South Africa have been indescribably amazing. The teachers and coaches that I’ve created relationships with throughout my time here have been key assets to my personal growth and I know will continue to serve as mentors after graduation. Since SMH not only has amazing academics, but also fine arts and athletics, I’ve been able to broaden my hobbies and have even decided to change my career path because I simply had the opportunity to take graphic design and sports photography courses. The bond with my basketball family, and the uplifting energy from friends and community members felt throughout the halls with a simple “good morning”and “how are you” impacted me daily. The companionship and camaraderie one has with both the students and the teachers is great. Parent: We really enjoy the challenge that BASIS offers while still letting kids be kids. My kids have always been in gifted programs but we felt that the public school format of pulling them out one day per week wasn’t enough. Now they’re constantly challenged as part of normal curriculum without the label of being gifted. A lot of responsibility is put on them and it’s a learning curve for sure, but learning to struggle and/or fail and then bounce back is a necessary skill to learn now so they’re not floundering adults.... Senior: The best part in my opinion, is how I'm able to ask questions in the classroom and not feel dumb for it. Ever single teacher legitimately cares about me, amd will bend over backwards to help me with anything I need, whether that be academics or something involved in my personal life. Additionally, I love how I'm encouraged to pursue my faith in Christ, and encouraged to ask questions about it. The teachers here care about each of us individually, and they have made school worth going to for me. I love everything about my school, amd I wish that I had attended all 4 years.... Senior: The Christian School at Castle Hills is a great school. The community is amazing, the teachers are awesome they help you if you need help and they are willing to come by your side and pray for you when you are going through a difficult time. The administrators are wonderful they take their job seriously Ann are willing to help any students that need help. Sometimes the rules can be interesting for example, on the last Friday of the month we can wear college dress, military dress, or spirit dress. But it was changed to just college or military dress but a lot of kids don’t have a college shirt or military shirt. So that rule is interesting to me. I hope that in the future CHS organizes things a little better so that the students aren’t missing so much class. Like for example our veterans Day program I love doing it but sometimes the scheduling is hard to work around because I’m a student so I still need to go to class. Senior: My experience at Antonian College Preparatory High School has been great! The community is a tight knit family and I feel like the teachers are so welcoming and inclusive to all people. Academics are great and I definitely feel prepared for college. Antonian does an amazing job at encouraging you to participate in school functions, extracurriculars, or any activities. They want everyone to be involved in the Antonian Family and participate within the school. The school atmosphere is a competitive one for sure, but it is healthy competition ranging from sports to academics and to school spirit. Antonian also holds many service and faith based activities, such as service hour projects, volunteering, and opportunities to attend faith-based retreats for all grades. Parent: Beyond grateful that we made the choice to send our son to Central Catholic High School in 2020. It has been a huge sacrifice for our son to attend this private Catholic school, yet he has prospered and evolved into a wonderful and responsible young man. He has grown in his faith and has made close and loyal friendships along the way. This year I had to leave to Houston to receive a bone marrow transplant. I had blood cancer, the brotherhood and Central Catholic community came together to help our son and family. This was a very difficult time for us, yet the school not only helped us by granting a high school scholarship they also looked after our son and made sure he was emotionally doing well in school. Senior: My experience at Incarnate Word High School definitely shaped me into a more focused individual. My high school has a modular schedule which provides time for me to get homework done, talk to teachers, or study for tests during school hours. This made me develop time management because if I didn't structure my time, I would find myself not getting work done in the free time I was offered. The purpose of this schedule had to be the best thing to happen to me. I was able to understand how college life is and learn you can decide if you want to become stressed over work or be disciplined to get it done within your free time. Once I learned this it became my new normal to never have loads of work which caused less stress. The worst part of my experience would be adjusting to such a different schedule and understanding its purpose. Senior: The best part about attending Cornerstone Christian School is that they have small class sizes, security, facilities, teachers get to know you rather than you just being a number, and the facilities are top notch. The worst part about Cornerstone is their uniform policy, recruiting in sports (especially girls volleyball), not treating girls sports equally to boys sports. Middle school student: I am a middle school student at EKHLA. Although it is my first and last year, I've had enough time to gather information to give a reasonable overview of the school. At EKHLA, the students and staff are very kind and welcoming. It is easy to make friends, and the teachers care about your performace, and assist those who are seeking help. My one complaint had to do with the academics. Having gone to schools with accelerated courses such as Keystone School, the lessons at Ekhla are somewhat boring and redundant. Although a large number of students would agree with me, I know there are some people who would argue otherwise. Also what I have noticed is that it is not the school that bad but it is the amount of effort that the students are willing to give. which is tricky when it comes to talking about a school.
