Despite its seemingly textbook high school look, the location of the school--set in the middle of a quiet, STEM focused town housing the Los Alamos National Lab--elevates what would be a classic high school experience into something much more unique. LAHS reflects its surrounding's intense focus on education, giving students opportunities to take man AP classes while providing quality teachers. The standard of education mixed with the cultural diversity of New Mexico offers a distinctive high school experience. However, with its pros come its cons. Senior: I like how inclusive St. Michael's is. Everyone knows everyone, and everybody is polite. The school offers many different opportunities for several interests. The faculty and staff want each student to succeed. I'll never forget my first year here. All the staff and all of my classmates were so friendly. They made sure I was comfortable with my classes and they taught me the ways of St. Michael's. It is not a regular high school. We go on retreats, we open our hearts to each other, and we profess our faith. St. Michael's instills in each student a set of five core values that we use not only in our academics, but in our daily life. St. Mikes is different and it's perfect that way. Senior: The Academy for Technology and the Classics is an incredible school. It is fairly demanding in terms of homework as most high schoolers are highly recommended to take around 7 AP classes throughout their high school years. ATC unfortunately does not offer many sports (only cross country, track, basketball, soccer, and esports), electives, or extra-curriculars, but makes up for it with a great environment. It has a very unique campus as most hallways are outdoors. The smaller class sizes make it much easier to have more connections and grow closer with the whole class. Middle School Student: Good enough. The teachers are great and most of the material is taught well. The way they organize the students is good and creative. I wish some of the teachers were a bit more flexible in how they get the information across, and there were a larger amount of different core classes you could take. It prepares its students well for High School though but isn't the most efficient in keeping the students kind and motivated. The school spirit is okay, but it is a bit overboard in trying to keep the students in check, which gets them a bit more out of line. It offers great computers and other supplies to the students, allowing them to expand their learning capabilities, and still keeps a good balance between work done online vs. on paper. It doesn't assign an overwhelming amount of homework, but there is quite a bit, so I would consider that before sending your child here. I like the school and I think it is pretty decent, but there are definitely some things that could be better.... Read 5 reviews

Other: Graduating classes exhibit a diverse body of students. Everyone has community service experience, many have leadership training, and a special few have degrees or certificates. I was fortunate enough to get in, complete almost 100 credits, and forward I only have about a year to get my bachelors. Tutoring is pretty good and the highschool is VERY flexable with nice teachers. Its an easy school if you choose not to do dual credit, but don't be fooled by easy highschool classes and think college is the same way. Those classes are generally much harder without hand holding especially science/math. Overall, if your lucky enough to get in, the opportunities combined with an ample combo of hard work and/or giftedness will set you up for plenty of career opportunities and scholarships. Although rare, I was fortunate to have 4 job offers at LANL and a full ride for my bachelors, something that I I almost certaintly would not have earned going to most other schools.... Works Here: It is the best "Southside" school in Santa Fe. The teachers are experienced. The students are well prepared for ant school they transfer to, including SF Prep and ATC. The music program and music teacher s are the best fpr elementary students in Santa Fe, if not in the state. The community values the arts, and the after school program offerings are amazing and FREE: Jazz band French, cooking, sign language, chess, jazz history, future cities, and many more.... Alum: This is a great little neighborhood school. I went here since I was five years old. The academics are wonderful. It does not prepare you for college but it does help for middle school. The sports are okay but its a elementary school so there isn't really a rational expectation for it. I didn't have one bad teachers out of the seven years of going to this school. I can't say anything bad about it because there is nothing bad about it I just hope that the kids who now go here do not have to experience the stress of the SFPS threatening every five or so years being either shut down or joined with another school but it happens although this school is wonderful.... Senior: Monte Del Sol was an amazing school and I definitely recommend it. From the community, to the culinary program, to our sports, to our amazing lunch crew, it’s all an amazing experience and I enjoyed it all. Now being a senior and I can reflect on all my years at Monte I just wish one thing. I wish I had more time and enjoyed the moments I wanted time to go faster. From being a multi sport athlete, to a community leader, to a culinary student I loved everything about Monte. Monte welcomes incoming students of all ages and groups with warm open arms and is also one of the most diverse schools in New Mexico. Monte has become a safe place for me and has definitely been the place where most of my cherished moments have happened. I love my school for what it is and what it always will be.
