Parent: I have been so impressed with the administration, faculty and staff of St. Chris over these past two years through the very difficult Covid era. When the school shut down in March of 2020, as the rest of America did, the school pivoted overnight to a distance learning model. Within two days, my son was getting assignments from his second-grade teacher and within the week his class was all gathering on Zoom each morning. Sure, there were bumps along the way. But I appreciated the school's drive to bring as much normalcy to their students as possible. In fall of 2020, while many other schools were still trying to figure out how to START a distance learning program, St. Chris was safely conducting in-person instruction, five days a week. It was more than just having deep pockets to be able to take on the additional cost of making that happen... it was also that the institution took on a proactive, problem-solving role in the midst of an educational crisis.... Senior: Beautiful campus, amazing faculty and facilities. I came to Collegiate for high school because I was looking for a more challenging curriculum and stimulating environment. I found it here from day one. Classes are challenging, but worth it with teachers who care. Athletics are a large part of student life. Every Upper school student much compete in two sports each school year. The pace can be exhausting sometimes, but also rewarding and really helps one learn to manage their time. Collegiate is not the most diverse school out there, but they do try to encourage people of color apply and do an excellent job making it affordable for those who can’t pay the full tuition. There are other kids who look like me and I’ve never been made to feel out of place. I felt welcomed and accepted by my peers and the faculty. Parent: Our experience with St. Catherine's has been fantastic since my girls were in the Early Learner program. The teachers have been amazing and have been truly supportive and accommodating to each of my girls individual personalities and needs as they've gone through the program, allowing them to really come out of their shell and find confidence and excitement through learning. Senior: The main thing I love about Community is that how small and friendly it is. The small student population allows for a deep community to develop where there are very little cliques and most people are familiar with each other. Senior: My experience was great! I loved the all girl aspect. Saint Gertrude helped me learn so much, and has really prepped me for college. Alum: Godwin has opportunities for students to get involved in a variety of activities. Personally, I was involved in the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Spanish Club, volunteer groups, school soccer, Ecology club, Madrigals (honors chorus), Table Tennis, and Photography Club. There is lots of school spirit and chances to get involved. There are a number of passionate teachers, and the leadership does a great job of communicating with students and parents, so we are all informed. The only challenge is that the school itself is in need of repairs and/or remodeling. There are almost NO windows, and the heating/cooling system is often challenged. It would be ideal to have the remaining bathrooms remodeled. The soccer/football field has been redone and is great! Again, lots of school spirit and chances to get involved. Senior: Glen Allen High School has an amazing environment of school spirit, extracurricular s, and hands-on learning. Events like football games, Battle of the Classes, spirit weeks really show how involved every student can be at Glen Allen. I have loved every minute of my high school experience. I would love to see the teachers passion change surrounding the learning environments. When you can see that a teacher doesn’t care about you or their subject, it makes you care even less. Parent: I transferred my two oldest children to Millwood after coming to the realization that public school was no longer a good fit for us. My kids are happier than they have ever been! At public school, my kids were in classes of 30+ kids, with little time for the teachers and students to forge connections. At Millwood, my kids' classes have 10-15 students and the teachers have time to create meaningful, hands' on lessons. The teachers consistently take the time to ensure that each child can demonstrate mastery of the concepts and is prepared to move on. Several times this year, Millwood teachers have made themselves available to help, outside of school hours, to ensure that my kids felt confident in the subject material. Parent: Oak Knoll is a great school. The students are generally from good, from upper middle class homes and follow school rules and procedures. Hanover like other school districts has a hard time keeping teachers who are sponsor sports teams and the like - several of the coaches work elsewhere during the day and come there to coach in the afternoon and evenings. To me personally that is not the desired approach. Also there is tremendous turn out and many students cannot or do not make the school team. Alum: I only went here for one year a long time ago but it was a wonderful experience. My teachers were very kind, hardworking, and genuinely cared about every student. Their classes were actually pretty fun, and I will always remember them. Most of the students were also very sweet and welcoming, even the one or two students that didn't like me were nice to me when I needed help. I'm sure bullying happened there because that's unavoidable, but I never saw anything and the worst I ever got was a kid just poking me to be annoying one time. The only significant trouble I ever had was in gym class because I got one of the teachers that was hated by pretty much everyone in the school, and looking back as a young adult, nobody was wrong to dislike this teacher. Parent: The school has a nice campus and flow. The walk ways are covered to protect students from weather while going from resource buildings. The preschool and Kindergarten playground is behind the school and very safe, nestled within a fence and wooded lot. The campus is decently secured with automatic door locks, an office check in system and officers on site during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Officers also have read to my daughters classes so I assume they spend some days fully in the grounds. The teachers I have met have been wonderful. Very caring teachers with great communication.
