Senior: After being at Harpeth Hall for both middle and high school, I can confidently say that I really enjoy the small class sizes and close relationships with teachers. I never feel ignored or brushed aside in class, and teachers are almost always available if I have a question outside of class. The academics at Harpeth Hall are amazing and I am challenged every say in my classes. However, the school is not as strong socially as it is academically. It's not very diverse racially or economically, with the majority of students being white and upper/upper-middle class. I have seen some improvements in diversity since I started here, but I think there is still much to be done to make the school accessible and affordable for everyone.... Read 62 reviews

Parent: I have two sons currently at MBA. We have loved our experience there. There is a true sense of community and I applaud the school for their focus on all three aspects of their motto, Gentlemen, Scholar, Athlete. My boys have had teachers and coaches who push them and demand hard work, but at the same time care for them immensely. Alum: Hume-Fogg is very academically focused, but there is also time for students to explore their interests and have fun. All academic classes at Hume-Fogg are honors or AP classes, but it is very manageable and enjoyable once you're used to it. For the fun aspect, there is a Titanball tournament hosted every year during school hours which students can freely attend, there are many club, during and after school, and there are many sports teams that students can join too. This is great for getting to know your classmates and forming bonds with one another. The Arts Department in Hume-Fogg is wonderful! The bands have received top marks at CPA, the chorus has received top marks in their assessments, and the Theatre Arts Department puts on wonderful plays that all the students have had the chance to enjoy. As a band student myself, I truly enjoyed my time playing an instrument and music that other's found too difficult for high schoolers. For academics, the teachers make everything rewarding.... Parent: The best part of Central Magnet School are the amazing teachers, staff, and students. The guidance counselors are incredibly helpful, the students are engaged and friendly, and the teachers are top notch. The student section at Basketball ball games is so much fun! The school days be competitive and sometimes stressful environment because many of the students are high achievers. But it’s also nice to be among diverse peers who push you to be your best. I would love to see the school have a more beautiful courtyard space for students to relax and study on nice days. Really, it’s an excellent school and my child has loved attending there.... Senior: BEST ATTRIBUTES- -The Choir program is incredible! I’ve been so blessed to be a part of such a wonderful community. -College readiness resources are readily available to students in every grade. I have been to several seminars and received a great amount of information. -Student life is fun and diverse. WORST ATTRIBUTES- -Some teachers are very difficult to get a hold of, which makes finishing coursework difficult. -Bathrooms by the Fine Arts classrooms are blocked off completely. -Very competitive academically, which makes students feel less accomplished. Alum: Merrol Hyde really is what you make it. Some people hate it, some people love it. I personally was very involved in the school and did multiple clubs, sports, and leadership and I LOVED my time there. The faculty is amazing and truly wants each student to do well and succeed. It definitely is a competitive environment in terms of the student body- lots of comparing/judging peers based on grades and test scores; I sometimes felt judged by my peers about my intellectual ability. As for the social environment, I personally love it but I can see where it may be hard for others to adapt or enjoy it. Everyone is very close and it is a tight knit community since it is such a small K-12 school, which is GREAT but can make it socially difficult for students arriving pretty much any time after freshman year. Sophomore: Overall, I have enjoyed my time at Pope Prep. I feel like the community (students and teachers) are supportive, and the academics are rigorous but manageable. There are a wide selection of Honors and AP courses (but also standard courses), and educated, faithful teachers. However, there have been some administration issues throughout the years, and there are significant mental health issues among the students (especially substance abuse). The academics can also feel overwhelming at times. As Pope continues to work out the kinks, though, this school continues to be a place of education, faith, athletics, art, and friendship. Senior: Christ Presbyterian Academy, or CPA, has been my home since the fourth grade, and I have seen it undergo an immense amount of chance. My experience at CPA has been very positive, but sometimes days can be hard at CPA and the community surrounds the school unlike anything I've ever seen. For example, ten ago, a CPA facility member passed away and the CPA senior class all went to the house of the teacher's family and sang hymns in the front yard, and they ended up getting on the news. This underlined to me that the CPA community cares for you, and there will always be people waiting to help you in any way possible. While I have never had a situation like the facility member, through tough times, the CPA community has surrounded me with love and compassion. The best part of my experience in the community and the worse part is that there is definitely favoritism within the school.
