Parent: Our entire experience over six years has been nothing less than wonderful. The teachers and staff know all the kids and really, truly care about both their personal well-being and their academic success. They go above and beyond to help wherever there is need, and parents get weekly personal emails from the teachers keeping us in the loop. The culture is kind, positive, and inclusive. There is abundant support and help throughout the college application process—truly extraordinary! I wish I'd had this sort of expereince in middle and high school! They have been generous with financial aid, which has made this journey possible. Teachers and staff are open and welcoming of parent input and questions. School spirit is great. The only deficit is that with the focus so strongly STEM oriented, music and drama are almost non-existent. I would have loved to have those offerings to round out the experience. Parent: Logos Charter School allows our 2nd grader to learn at his own pace. Our 2nd grader was having trouble learning to read. Our ES worked with us until we were able to find a curriculum that worked best for him. He is now reading thanks to an online program called, Reading Eggs! I do wish the school offered more activities/field trips for K-2 graders. Being apart of a Charter School versus being in a public school setting where the children attend school 5 days a week, I feel my child is missing out on the little, but memorable activities such as a Christmas performance for the parents or exchanging Valentines with their classmates. Also, the socialization is hard being that the children are in short, one hour classes with different children. My child has had a hard time forming solid friendships. Parent: I absolutely adore Helman school. My kids absolutely love it. I currently have 5 kids attending. One of my children has an IEP in place. The school administrators and staff were very proactive with it. They were in constant contact with me regarding her learning needs. They even added things into the IEP that I would have not even thought about. This is our 3rd year there and every single teacher my kids have had has been phenomenal. It's by no means a perfect school but if you have the right kind of teacher who's really there to teach you the subject, then you WILL learn what you need to learn. Parent: Phoenix high school has been a Godsend for our children. Covid really did a number on our high school senior’s education, and she ended up needing to go to 4 different schools in 4 years. 3 of them were virtual. We made the decision to enroll her in PHS for her senior year, and she thrived! From day one she was welcomed, loved, and supported. She graduates in 2 days with a 3.9 GPA, she lettered in varsity swimming, stepped outside her comfort zone and joined the track and field team, and best of all, has made some incredible, lifelong friends. The only reason I have not given 5 stars is due to the school’s lack of a quality music and theatre programs. Junior: South is a great school that gives students many opportunities to thrive! The staff at South Medford high school really cares about their students and their success. I think they are great at getting students prepared for college and the adult world. SMHS has amazing teachers who care about their students. The community loves South and South loves the community. Our leadership/ Government/ clubs give as much as they can to the school and community. South’s athletics are also amazing in the sense that we are the #1 school in Oregon for every sport. Alum: Crater School and Business Innovation and Science was probably the best small school for me to attend. It had great academics and a lot of opportunities to push yourself harder through honors and AP classes. I loved almost all of the teachers and they really seem to care for their student and want to see every single one of them to succeed. BIS actually enacts an independent thinking and learning style which I felt prepared me a lot for college as professors don’t “baby” students anymore. Although BIS doesn’t have they’re own music program their student are allowed to do a cross over class to one of the other small schools, Renaissance. Sports are a huge thing at crater and a lot of our sports teams have thrived in the last few years with amazing coaches. Something really cool and special about Crater is there is a scholarship foundation set up for the students and every single person that applies gets at least $500. Senior: My experience with staff and educators has been amazing. The overall community of Grants Pass has never been my favorite, but what made it easier for me to get through it was having support from my teachers and admin. Grants Pass High School has a lot of opportunities with clubs, sports, and music. They are constantly finding ways to accommodate students as much as possible no matter what background we come from. The school has implemented activity buses for students who don't have transportation after clubs or sports and I have seen them provide scholarships to those who want to play sports or music activities but don't have the funds for it. Grants Pass High School is a good place for students who live in the Southern area of Oregon. Most staff try to be as inclusive as possible and there are always conversations about how to make things easier for students who don't fit into the "traditional" family view. Middle School Student: This middle school is GREAT. I love the school and the band i better thjan North Middle School's band.The Wrestling is also better too. Our school is larger than theirs and actually younger. The staff is nice (and a 6th grade math teacher plays fortnite.) There is also the band teacher who went to high school with Ninja (Richard Tyler Blevins). She even kept the yearbook.
