Other: When I went there, I was always treated well by peers, teachers, and upperclassmen. Okemos offered a plethora of things to do, from extra-curriculars on dealing with sports, to educational ones, about biology, business, or life. Furthermore, the curriculum they were giving was offered advanced levels, and displayed their notion that students have personalized schedules, that suits them for their future. Also, I always felt safe and accommodated, as a Muslim, I never had to suffer prejudice because of the kind character of everyone around me. Not only that, but me needing to pray was never frowned upon, but accepted welcomingly, whenever I needed a room, they offered one for me without hesitation, almost as if we were all one family. It wasn't just that, there was a sense of connectivity amongst one another, and a feeling of security the moment you walked in, as if you weren't being judged. Senior: East Lansing High School is a standout school, defined by its diversity in people, experiences, and opportunities. The community and school culture stands out as one that unites many differing people and forms tight-knit bonds that will last a lifetime. The students are fortunate to have dedicated and passionate teachers who always go above and beyond to help understand the material and reach their full potential. Students are given the opportunity to explore interests and develop important skills like teamwork, leadership, and communication through sports, music, and clubs. Most importantly, the school opens the door for student voices and provides for change when it is needed. The school does, however have its struggles. There are commonly conflicts between students, and many of the faculty are unpopular among students. Parent: Spring Vale is a rare gem! They use a classical education model utilizing the trivium of Grammar (memorizing facts, dates, people), Logic (analyzing facts, reasoning, argumentation, critical analysis), and Rhetoric (integrated knowledge, articulation, growing in wisdom). It's truly a great way to master what you're learning. We like the class sizes, life skills classes, the HOUSE system, and dress code. The campus is much bigger than it seems. They have goats, chickens, bees (they actually do beekeeping as a life skills class), and as pond stocked with fish as they teach fishing also. Just really awesome. Check it out for your kids. Freshman: Lansing Community College is a great school for students who don't know what they want to do, or for students who want to save money! The classes are intimate like a high school classroom. Many universities have hundreds of students in their classrooms, so it can be harder to have that one-on-one time with the professors! Senior: Haslett High School is an amazing place to be because the teachers and staff are super accepting of everyone! The environment is safe for students to be honest with others and share their thoughts openly! Bullying is not accepted and Haslett treats everyone with kindness. Senior: To me, DeWitt is an accepting school of all types of people and has been an absolute pleasure to be at. I love the classes and how many teachers are approachable and friendly. Sports and competitions in general are a big part of the DeWitt culture, as we have a high-performing Varsity, Women's Varsity, and JV group for just about every sport we offer. I can personally attest to this as I've been on our Archery team, bowling team, and Marching band for the extent of high school and I believe that they're a very good insight into who DeWitt is as a school. Having said all that though, sports are really the only thing that drives people together, and there's not a very big selection of clubs to join, which is something I wish to see happen in the future....
