Junior: Transferring to Webb in the 7th grade was one of the best decisions in my (parent's) life. Webb has not only allowed me to flourish academically, but also socially, athletically, and musically. Yes, Webb is an extremely academically tough school. Parent: We are so blessed that our kids have been able to attend Coulter Grove Intermediate School. The teachers here go above and beyond to connect with the students. While they challenge the kids academically, the go beyond academics to connect with them in ways that they carry with them. Niche User: I personally would not choose another school. I have had some issues, but overall, its a great school. Multiple school functions have parent turn outs that are unbelievable and the teachers are absolutely wonderful. The bew technology program allows every student a personal ipad. Freshman: Farragut is an amazing school. The opportunities available are amazing for a public school, however, a newly implemented program has definitely taken it down a notch. The school developed an Academy system where they force Freshman students to choose a pathway to go to, in other words, they are making 9th graders choose on what they want to do for the rest of their life. This has caused a lot of distress among students, especially considering that they only allow one to change pathways once. The school has also unfortunately implemented needless, and useless yet mandatory classes in addition to the normal lifetime wellness and PE classes that bring down students' GPAs. They also restricted freshmen from doubling up in any math or science classes, which is an absolute shame. Farragut has the makings of a great school and teaches many gifted children, however, poor management and administration have stunted the growth of the gifted students at Farragut.... Senior: I have attended River Edge Christian Academy since 3rd grade and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a small Christian school. It is a very close-knit and welcoming God-centered community. The teachers and Facility work their hardest to provide the best learning experience possible to their students. The school is very small though, with less than 1,000 students, so it isn't the right fit for everyone. The school pushes students to do their best and grow both academically and spiritually. Another downside is they do not offer sports, due to the school renting their building from a church. Parent: L&N STEM Academy is a unique experience academically, socially, and with the extra-curricular activities that are offered as compared to other Knox County schools. The campus is very unique as it is in a beautiful historic building and in downtown Knoxville. There are some amazing teachers, admin, and staff at this school. We have had both ups and downs with the school (both in dealing with administration and with teachers), but overall have been very pleased with the education and experiences that our children have had at L&N. The extra-curricular activities include a rowing team, Ultimate frisbee, bowling, rock climbing and more traditional sports such as tennis, swimming, and cross country. Alum: Overall, I had a great experience. The school offered difficult classes that prepared me for college. The class sizes were perfect for a smaller private school. However, since it is a catholic school, it is essential to understand the type of environment and often pushes specific political objectives, which was not a good experience. These types of political objectives were confusing at a young age. However, parents and students should expect that when going to a catholic. I would like to see a change in the treatment of boys and girls because girls often felt mistreated. We often had skirt checks in front of our class mates that were embarrassing and demeaning.... Senior: One of the best things at Maryville High School is the staff and the friendly surroundings they create. They often create a challenging and nurturing environment, which leads to success the student may not be able to achieve on their own. They want every student to be prepared for life after high school, regardless of whether they choose to go to college, join the workforce, join the military, etc. There are also a lot of off campus opportunities through classes, clubs, and extracurricular activities to help out in the community. Being challenged to grow and achieve your potential also results in the students feeling stressed and sometimes overwhelmed. Freshman: The maker space in our Oak Ridge High School Library is the best place to express your creativity side, or nerdy side while enjoying your time with friendly peers and teachers, but the librarian is the nicest librarian ever. I highly recommend not just the Maker Space , but the library also owns so many amazing genres, topics, and diverse book collection. Senior: As a 13-year-old coming from a small private school with the graduating class of 2024 consisting of a whopping 16 people, I had no idea what to expect going into the big bad world of public school, apart from what I saw in the movies. That being said, my experience at Alcoa has been better than I ever imagined. The Alcoa community is welcoming to everyone and I feel like everyone can find somebody, whether it's through classes, clubs, sports, or other extracurriculars. Alcoa is not perfect, though. I am on the soccer team and we receive zero funds from the school system because it all goes towards the football program. We've won state 8 years in a row in football so I understand putting effort into it but the other sports teams at Alcoa are left out to dry and have to come up with different ways to get money for their programs even though Alcoa has plenty of money that can be put into other programs....
