Senior: My experience at Portage West Middle School was amazing! I’ve met many friends there that I still talk to today. There are many classes to choose from, large variety at lunch, and lots of kids to meet and make new friends with! I really never felt annoyed or bored coming to this school either, pushing aside the regular school drag emotions every kid has. I’ve made so many memories and friends here. Alum: I had a pretty good experience at PN, the teachers were all mostly friendly and loved the job they had and a lot of the students were nice and participated in a lot of activities that the school put on. There were lots of spirit weeks and assemblies put on by the many different clubs and groups at the school that helped people to be aware of what was going on such as inclusive week and having a Black history month assembly. A lot of the teachers enjoyed what they do and you could tell that being around students was what made their day. Especially when Covid had hit many of the students had lost motivation to try their best but teachers encouraged them and were understanding when it came time to come back. Senior: I transferred from public school into Hackett freshmen year due to covid and I couldn't be more grateful. At my public school, I lacked academic challenges; I would pass with A's in every class without trying. At Hackett, we are pushed to do more than the average high school class. We are constantly intertwined in the Hackett community and are able to join sports and clubs we wouldn't get the chance to otherwise. Students here are interested in learning which definitely helped me to gain an interest in what I am doing as well. As a former public school student, I can tell that my teachers care about how well I am doing, for example, we have mandatory peer tutoring available for every student if a teacher thinks you could benefit from the extra help. We also are being pushed to complete many assignments at a college level rather than the standard high school level. Junior: While at Portage Central High School, I have experienced a lot of ups and very few downs. For example, in Freshman year, there were many ways to get involved. Being the "newbies" in the building of about 1,140 kids, it was extremely intimidating and hard to get used to being in high school. The upperclassmen, as well as the administrators, were very welcoming and led us along the way the entire year. But, by being so nurturing, Sophomore year hit everyone like a train. By treating us like babies, they made life way harder than it needed to be that year, making this year (junior year) a lot easier. Changing the note, the academics here at PC are very good, as a school that offers both the IB diploma, and some AP courses, it is very rigorous: helping us get prepared for college, and to be our best selves academically. Senior: I have been a student at Gull Lake Community Schools since seventh grade. I am now a senior and I can tell you, I will miss it. From the amazing teachers who have helped me become the person I am today, to the awesome memories I have from the people at the football games. I have made many friends and have lost some on the way. Gull Lake offers many unique classes. You meet so many new and different people you might not have otherwise interacted with. I will say one thing that can be difficult for some people is sports. Gull Lake is a very sport-centered school and that could get in the way of others who aren't as physically gifted with that ability. In my sophomore year, I considered going virtual but I am glad I stayed in person and stayed connected at school. I will miss the lunch table talks, the laughs with teachers and students, and the memories. It has been a long few years, but we are finally here. Freshman: All of the staff are very caring and willing to help if there's ever any sort of problem. The core classes offered are mostly fun, though it would be nice if they had a few more options for advanced students in subjects other than math. The Encore classes are all very fun and there are a lot of different ones to choose from, which was really nice. The school itself is pretty nice, the eighth grade wing has been recently updated, so that was by far the best year. The rest of the school, while not as new, is still really nice.... Read 2 reviews
