Parent: I can't believe the incredible transformation my daughter has made in her first year at Kent Denver. Her 6th grade experience continued her positive academic trajectory, in tandem with developing communication and social-emotional skills. It has been amazing to watch her build her confidence, both inside and outside of the classroom. Parent: We came to the middle school for a challenging and fulfilling experience for our son, who thrived here at SMA and was totally prepared as he launched into a wonderful high school experience. We have stayed with our daughter, who has been in all three SMA divisions at this point, and is absolutely thriving here at the all-girls high school. Sophomore: I have gone to the school since kindergarden and there are many good things about the school in its many clubs and programs such as our fairly decent sports program, wood shop, design lab, robotics lab and more! However the school does have many shortcomings as there are some teachers who are not too great to say the least, the school scheduled changes literally every single year as it hasn't stayed consistent for more than 2 years since 2016, and there is alot of homework, like alot of homework. The average day in the school can consist of around 3-4 homework assignments from my experience so if you do go here be prepared to loose sleep trying to finish assignments and projects. Overall if you are considering trying to get into this school it is a charter school that only accepts gifted kids so you need to reach that benchmark on an IQ test so overall I would recommend trying to go somewhere else just purely because of the workload this school has.... Parent: Dawson has been the perfect place for our middle schooler to become very engaged with academics, especially Mandarin , “ makerspace” learning adobe illustrator and computer guided printing/ laser wood cutting in the new STEM center, chemistry/physics intro, algebra in addition to all of the basic subjects and multiple experiential learning trips. All middle schoolers can participate on multiple sports teams ( no cut) and the school has many elective and cocurricular offerings. The dedication and quality of teaching faculty is exceptional, and retention is very high among the staff. The school emphasizes independence in academics and students reaching out for help from teachers and taking responsibility for their academic performance. The administrative staff are also excellent, taking a personal interest in the students and monitoring their academic as well as social/ emotional well being. Sophomore: Small school, with great college prep. As a student I've been told 100% of graduates have gone to college, which I think is nice. I'd say the teachers are better than average. Some classes, such as Intro to Innovation feel like a waste of time, if I'm completely honest. However, most classes provide you with very useful information, and there's lots of room for expansion by your Senior year, such as math going all the way up to Calc 3 Differential Equations. Senior: There’s a lot of great resources in terms of academics, but for activities it can be a bit difficult to become more involved, unless the club or sport already has a lot of participation. There’s a large Mormon population in the area, which is a little interesting! (They’re also more involved in performing arts haha). We have some great performing arts programs, with our choirs and orchestras among the best in the state. Our marching band, however internationally ranked! There’s a fairly even ratio of people who lean conservative and people who lean liberal, but to my knowledge there’s never been any harassment from either side. Our honors and AP programs are fantastic- but they are less diverse than our grade level courses. When you can communicate, the school works with you, but you have to be the one to make the first step. Honestly, I’ve had a great four years here. Great learning and mostly nice people.... Senior: Overall my experience at Regis has been transformative. Though freshman year was a bit rough, as I moved here before freshman year so I knew absolutely no one, the community is absolutely amazing. I met people rather quickly and everyone was very welcoming to me. I especially love the atmosphere of the swim team and all the different retreats. I would like to see some aspects that differ between the girls division and boys division to change. The boys have much newer facilities, it seems as though the girls division is always having maintenance issues. I would also like to see some more classes be co-divisional. Sophomore: D’Evelyn’s a great school for those who are willing to challenge themselves. There isn’t a lot of drug use or violence. However, due to its focus on academics, things like extracurriculars, sports, and “fun” classes are substandard. Due to its difficulty, your GPA suffers. Only colleges in the area compensate for the difficulty on the school in admissions. On the other hand, D’Evelyn really prepares you for college. The students are also a little snobby. Senior: Rock Canyon High School is overall a great School for all high school students. I started at Rock Canyon as a freshman and will soon be graduating as a senior in may. Along the way I've met many super cool teachers and awesome friends and other students. I think that Rock Canyon is really good with getting you involved in sports and activities and clubs. We have a lot of different opportunities for all types of activities whether it's academically or athletically, or even just for fun. Rock Canyon has great school spirit and every assembly and pep rally goes awesome. I think that Rock Canyons Administration is really great. Obviously there are some ups and downs in certain areas and criteria but what school doesn't have those. Senior: I really enjoyed my time at Mullen! Overall, I think mullen is a great school. There is a loving community of peers and teachers. Mullen also is extremely helpful with the college process and made it much less stressful. I think schools can always improve and one of the only things I wish Mullen did different was offer more elective classes like fashion design or American Sign Language. Mullen is coming out with more elective options for next school year however I just never got to experience that. Middle School Student: It isn't actually that much more HW than other middle schools, it's just a stereotype. Great School. There is a bit of HW, but don't all middle schools. It's not all education. Yeah, the teachers and administrators want you to be smart, but Summit students are good at a variety of things including sports, integrity, and kindness. This school also prepares you well for high school and college, which isn't a bad thing. Sometimes it's hard to take up a lot of activities outside Summit, but the teachers are flexible. Those who don't like this school just came in thinking they wouldn't like it, so their brains didn't let them. Senior: My overall experiences being a student at East High school has been beyond wonderful. I had rough start to high school, as I spent my freshman year online during lock down due to the COIVD-19 pandemic. So least to say, starting my first day of in person school in my sophomore year was nerve wracking. Although I was a sophomore, it felt like I was a freshmen all over again. Getting lost and running around the school trying to find my class was how my first day of school went. After that day, I remember feeling upset and worried about the rest of my school year. Middle School Student: Ive attended since fourth grade, and Id like to begin discussing the application process. Its difficult to get into this school unless you have a sibling who has attended or is presently attending at Challenge. Obtaining a recommendation letter from your current school's teacher is also an easier option to gain admission to the school. When it comes to clubs, the school is fiercely competitive, particularly in lego robotics, TSA(Technology Student Association), Chess, and Math Club. The school places a lot of emphasis on writing and math. However, I wish the school would have its own sports team because I know a lot of athletes that go to different places to participate in sports. This school welcomes diversity, and kids who join clubs like WEB, PACK players, and another one that I cant recall right now get to lead assemblies that discuss topics that children should be aware of(eg: bullying). Parent: Transformative, character building, mind expanding, soul nourishing and affirming! The educators are phenomenal and inspire these kids to be authentically interested, involved and motivated. Parent: We moved to Denver 8 years ago to enroll our oldest son in Kindergarten at Denver Waldorf. What drew me to Waldorf was the experiential learning and a ton of outdoor activities offered. Now that my three sons, ages 13, 11 and 9 are all enrolled, my favorite part of the school is the community. We all came to Waldorf because we wanted something better for our children than what was offered elsewhere. We are told by neighbors and strangers how well-spoken our boys are. I don’t think we can attribute all of this to ‘nature’, ‘nurture’ is something they are receiving at home AND at school. They are part of a movement that is desperately needed now more than ever. The teachers are kind and thoughtful, and they really get to know each child. In their grade school they typically have the same teacher for at least 4 years. Alum: Denver School of the Arts was overall a very enriching experience when it came to furthering my skills in the arts. The resources provided for this course of study were phenomenal. The main concerns I would raise for any incoming students are that: #1) While this school can be very beneficial for someone looking to follow the arts, it can often be difficult path for someone who has decided that the arts are not for them. Many students decide that they would rather pursue a different passion in life by the time they are seniors. This can make the highly art centered environment fairly hard to be a part of. Especially since there are no sports! #2) The school spirit is generally lacking. While there are many school sponsored events that students can attend while enrolled at DSA, many of them revolve around individual art forms. Sophomore: Honestly i really like my high school experience here at DSST Mont view, they offer so many college opportunities, there's so many clubs for so many interests, sports , diversity & inclusivity, advanced classes and prepare you overall for college. Sophomore: DJDSis the most amazing school, home, family, and community. Going to this school has allowed me to flourish in ways that could never be replicated anywhere else. Secularly, the teachers are so invested in my learning and will always find a time to meet with me to go over stuff and genuinely want me to succeed. In regards to the Judaic program, It has allowed me to discover God and spirituality, without ever telling me what I should believe. The classesmerely push you to challenge your own beliefs and think deeply about the subject so every student can benifit.Most importantly, DJDS has given me my second family I can walk down the hallway everyday and be surrounded by people I can count on. DJDS transformed me from a timid 6th grader who was nervous to ask a teacher to fix my grade.
