Senior: Yeah, Lexington high school is stressful. Not necessarily because of our academics (though many of our teachers are Ivy/t20 grads) but because of the students. We’re very competitive, and there’s an external drive/stress culture depending on who you hang out with. It’s very common for us to send most of our class (even the “popular” and “slacker” kids) to top schools for their major. We have no school spirit but that never mattered to me. Not many people attend football games or care about traditional high school popularity, which is refreshing. And our school is so big that you will definitely find your crowd. Finally: yes, we’re known for our bad mental health, as expected from a top high school. But many teachers are really understanding of your circumstances, so don’t be afraid to reach out to them! Overall, I’d definitely recommend LHS. I got to know so many amazing and intelligent friends and staff, while obtaining a great education.... Read 383 reviews

Alum: The curriculum is complete with all core subjects being taught with many application projects such as interviews of friends and family for social studies. Many life skills such as group work is also encouraged everyday across all subjects. There is also a strong arts and music program, where 4th and 5th graders are provided the opportunity to play a string or band instrument of their choice. 3rd graders also all learn the recorder in third grade. The school also participates in many field trips that are both educational and enjoyable for the kids. In the early years trips include the Cotton factory in lowell, the aquarium, and a local farm. Parent: The staff responsiveness (teachers, administration, counselors, etc) was amazing throughout middle school. They have a wonderful way of encouraging independence & self-advocacy in students & we saw our student grow tremendously in this respect. The teachers make themselves accessible. The school counselor was phenomenal, both caring & proactive. The hard part was social, the students tend to segregate themselves over time, mostly racially. It's also challenging for anyone with cultural differences and for the socially awkward. More student & parent programs encouraging speaking out against bullying may help prevent some of the bullying and cliques inherent in middle school. More educational programs about diversity and acceptance may help too, given the relative lack of diversity in the student population.
