Parent: My wife and I toured the school for a planned move to the area, and were very impressed by the openness and sense of community presented both by the students and faculty. While we attended the tour, our daughter (3) was provided the opportunity to experience an active program though one of the classrooms. She was greeting instantly by the other children, and the teacher helped orient her to a group activity. Everyone was very friendly and excited, and our daughter was thrilled to be making new friends! The tour was hosted by a current student, who was very friendly and knowledgeable. She thoughtfully presented each classroom, social setting, and program structure. We were most impressed by the progressive nature of the curriculum, allowing each grade to interact collaboratively through creative projects. Students and staff are outgoing and friendly around other students. The sports programs are available to show students' unique talents. The community shows support by watching at games, cheering for their teams, and social media to express their great support. For students & teachers, the district provides the latest technology (Chromebooks, TVs, Tablets, paper) and resources for exceptional teaching. Senior: York Suburban High School provides a rigorous and challenging curriculum. While some students do tend to struggle, our school provides endless tutoring help as the teachers WANT you to succeed. And although our education may seem "hard", I've heard from multiple graduates who are currently in college that they were more prepared than their peers were. As a person of color, I would say that I've always felt respected and over the years our diversity has expanded. York Suburban also makes sure that you have endless opportunities to be involved with the school. We have 30+ extracurriculars that you can get involved in. This helps our students become much more close-knit. Some things I would like to see change however is school spirit participation. I feel like students could go and support each others sports team more as well as participate in our spirit weeks. I also wish we wouldn't receive so much homework. Parent: Everything about Conewago Elementary is outstanding. Teachers engage with students in a fun, efficient, and effective way and do their best to help students aim for greatness. Teachers accommodate extra time for students in need in a subject. Students are friendly around other students. The sports programs are available and encouraged, to grow and showcase individual talents and the community shows their support by watching at games, cheering for our team, and going on social media to express their support. Senior: I have had mixed experiences in the high school, from having to deal with construction the past four years to being apart of several different extra clubs. As a result, I can recognize where the district could do better, which includes more communication to students, regarding new policies, safety programs, and requirements to graduate. Many students go throughout their school career doing what they assigned schedule says, thinking that all of the classes meet the requirements of graduation since their guidance counselor makes them. This is not the case, and it creates later headaches for students, parents, administrators, and guidance counselors. I hope to see some focus on the communication to students in all aspects.... Middle School Student: I was a student here, from Kindergarten to 3rd Grade. The teachers here make schoolwork fun and learn in an efficient and effective way. The overall atmosphere is amazing and the staff here are very nice! The sports are very good and we go through every aspect given for each sport and health subjects. Senior: Central York school district has been a massive part of my life for the last 13 years. Because of this school district, I met my 5 closest friends, I was able to play the sports that I love most (basketball and volleyball), I was able to get involved in clubs like the National Honors Society, and so much more! Although Covid-19 ruined half of my high school experience, I think the teachers and administration did a great job in trying to keep normalcy there. Middle School Student: A newly built school in the district. As a student from Northeastern Middle School, I would say that this middle school is one of the middle schools in the surrounding counties. This school strives to make students better academically and physically overall for high school and college readiness. There are many clubs and activities available). Parents around the district are involved in many events and PTO. Northeastern Middle School takes safety VERY seriously. The administration is very nice and respecting and strive to make our school district better. The teachers are top-notch and teach to the best they can. Their facilities, such as the pool and gyms, are clean and modern. There are many resources the school use to learn many subjects and tasks. The food is very selective in Middle school. Northeastern Middle School students and staff are friendly and are very diverse. In all, Northeastern Middle School is one of the best middle schools in the state and surrounding counties.... Junior: Dallastown is a great school. The staff is caring and involved. The dedication, diligence and caring of the teachers and staff is evident with the high marks and accolades our school attains each year. I am a member of the high school swim team and love the motivation and support I receive from my coaches and fellow teammates. I would like to see the school district allocate more resources to all its student athletes though. Senior: York Catholic High School offers rigorous AP and Honors courses that may even be considered harder than college. Students are readily prepared for the future and are supported by community service hours and student activities. The religious aspect is prominent through monthly Masses, religion courses, and daily prayer, but a student is not required to be Catholic to go here. The main problem with York Catholic is the lack of variety in courses. Business and computer classes have been added, but the school has to make up for other courses through online virtual classes and a partnership with York Tech. These offer classes like welding and even forensic science. The building was also newly renovated, and the new classrooms look great! Music and art suffer here in favor of sports.
