Alum: I enjoyed my four years at Pomfret. It is a small school where everyone knows each other and looks out for one another. Teachers are welcoming, but have very high expectations (lots of homework and a high-level of interaction in-class and after-hours at study hall). The campus and buildings are beautiful, but the area is quite rural - I wish there had been more opportunities to get outside and explore the natural areas on the large campus. Students tend to focus their time on sports, studying, and relaxing in the dorms or outside on the quad in nice weather. I felt prepared for the academics of college, but also felt severe culture shock going from small Pomfret to a large university. Senior: Marianapolis Prep School is an excellent institute, in which an environment of community flourishes. The academic schedule permits students with flexibility to choose their own rigor, along with unique programs such as the Centers of Excellence, encompassing business, social justice, computer science, and engineering. Parent: The Academics at this school are amazing. Some students graduate with so many AP/ECE colleg credits that they’re able to enter college as a sophomore. The performing arts program-choir, band, theater-is unlike anything you’d find at a normal high school. The Loos Center for the Arts (on South campus) is a professional-grade theater and art gallery. Classes are focused on hands-on learning and experiences as much as possible. The residential life staff members are beyond compassionate and create a family environment in the boarding program. Senior: I transferred here after my sophomore year and I genuinely think it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I’ve always wanted to do theatre professionally, so being able to immerse myself in the arts has been so beneficial. I love that we can take classes outside of our major. My biggest issue is how problems are handled. My friends and I have been the target of harassment and cyberbullying, and not much has been done about it, as far as I can tell. Senior: Overall this school is a great opportunity for those that want to get a jump start on their college education. You can attend the connecting college for free while still enrolled in highschool to save time and money with future college credits. The only reason I would not give this school five stars is that there are good handful of students that transfer here who are blatantly disrespectful to students and staff, and when bullying is brought up to the administration nothing much is done about it. I would not say it is a huge issue within the school, and it should not turn anyone away from taking advantage of the college opportunity, however it is something you should be aware of before attending. Alum: Middle school is never easy for any kid and I was no exception to that. The teachers here helped me through my tough times in and out of the classroom. Sports at Woodstock were always so well coached and planned, I won 4 championships for the boys' soccer team but I also was part of the advanced chorus program there as well and on top of that I was in Band all four years as well this school gives you a lot of opportunity to be you.... Middle School Student: Charles H. Barrows is a very good school overall but needs a little more things to fix. I have been in this school from 5-8th grade and I am currently in my last year of middle school. I share lots of memory's there and I would always remember the school for the rest of my life. But there is only a few criticism I would give to the school and that would have to be their lunch system. It does not provide enough nutrition for their students, and the food itself is not very good. I do appreciate the workers who work there to serve the school community I just don't like the system. I would also criticize the little amount of physical education they provide . Each week that I have been in middle school the amount of time given for physical education was very, very limited. Niche User: I have had two children attend KIS. The teachers were some of the most supportive people I have been around. My children loved their time at KIS, especially the 7th grade. They were well prepared to move forward and are still meeting with success.
