Parent: Sterlington HS has a great academic program. The teacher/student ratio is good and the school has an "A" rating from the Louisiana Board of Secondary Education. In addition, it has certificate programs from the state called JumpStart that provide practical training on things like Emergency Medical and Robotics. Senior: My favorite thing about West Monroe that seems uncommon across Louisiana is the constant opportunity and encouragement for excellence. AP and DE courses, tutoring, ACT workshops, etc. all work toward student success. This gives a student like myself the ability to reflect on their own career decisions and explore them before ever stepping into college. With this, we will be much more likely to hold our heads higher going into our secondary education, and we will have gained a larger background knowledge of important life lessons. However, what prevents West Monroe from 5 stars is the attention paid to athletics. While athletics are a great way to bring the school together, academics are ultimately more important and more long lasting, which is why more emphasis on academic achievements is necessary. Senior: I have attended River Oaks from the very start of my education, in kindergarten. As I grew up, the school's shine that it seemed to be coated in when I was a child slowly began to fade. I always will love River Oaks, but due to its lower funding, it was hard sometimes to accept that I didn't have a lot of opportunities. But there were several things I love about River Oaks. River Oaks has provided me with friends that I will never stop learning from or challenging to make ourselves better. I have learned to work-hard on my academics, since I am the only one who can guarantee my success. The school does ensure equality, with every student being given the same chance to shine in his or her own way. So while I wasn't afforded the same chances as some other schools, I was given the opportunity to learn about myself, teach myself to think, and I became a better person. Alum: I went to OCS for 13 years!! It was honestly so good for me. Not only were the academics great, but so were the sports. The teachers and coaches both cared for the students on and off of the campus. This made it so special to all of the students. Unlike most schools, the staff cared about our future. I still have teachers checking up on me! There isn’t much I would change about OCS. I love the teachers, coaches, and staff. Junior: Neville isn’t just a school to its students. It’s a home. As a freshman when I first walked through those double doors I immediately felt welcome with multiple students, teachers, and administrators greeting me and asking me questions about myself to get to know me better. Neville’s teachers do their very best to not only help students pass their class, but really learn and understand the material being taught. This in turn produces more college-ready students. Although academics at Neville are stressed, it does offer other aspects such as sports. Neville has a wide range of sports to choose from whether it be anything from football to volleyball to fishing. Not only are many sports offered, but for those who don’t like participating in sports first hand Neville caters to that as well. The numerous clubs offered at Neville provide a wide variety for students to pick from whatever their interests might be. The atmosphere at Neville is one of many reasons I call it home....
