Senior: I came to CK during the pandemic. It obviously was not a traditional experience, however, comparatively, the school's response to the pandemic in ensuring the best possible education was provided to their students was definitely exceptional. With the amazingly breathtaking campus, CK has the facilities and resources like no other high school that students have the full advantage of utilizing. Students had the opportunity to return to campus for in-person learning a lot sooner the other schools due to the spacing available. Senior: The curriculum offers a worldly perspective that is often lost in American schools and that greatly enhances the education and prospectives of the students. The student body is drawn from several districts, offering a sense of diversity in each classroom that complements the coursework. While the curriculum is demanding, all of the teachers are extremely attentive and understanding to each students circumstances. Since the school is small, there is a level of transparency and respect between the students and teachers that is lost at larger schools. Senior: Troy High School has a lot of different courses than most other High Schools I know of. The more diverse classes would be the courses in science/STEM. There are a lot of classes for students who are interested in biology and want to delve deeper into a certain topic in biology or are still deciding which field of biology they would want to study. The courses for STEM are endless. Even for other subjects like English, Troy High provides many classes for those who are more into creative writing or even mythology. The only downside would be the food and some of the teachers. The food isn't bad, it's just like any other public school lunch. The bread is very bland but there's still variety in food. How the classes proceed depends a lot on which teacher you get. The teachers aren't horrible but some teachers are definitely a lot harsher and stricter about deadlines/due dates.... Senior: Roeper's claim that it is "more than a school" may sound like typical school propaganda, but it's largely true. While its programs in Music and Sports are mediocre (mostly due to the fact that there are only 50 kids per grade), the teachers are incredible and students are generally very smart and kind. I have three independent studies this year, in which I study fractal geometry and animal intelligence and compose jazz tunes. The school has a social justice commitment that can at times seem a bit too much, but I ultimately really appreciate the school's bias towards fact over non-partisanship. Senior: The community that I belong to is the student body of Novi High School (NHS.) I would define this community by the high standards that students are held to. NHS is the lone high school in Novi, the 31.29 square miles suburb of Detroit. I am also part of the minority ethnicity student body at NHS and a student of the 2023 graduating class. At Novi the minority ethnicity groups are almost the majority. The diverse student body in Novi schools and the school's competitive nature create my ideal learning environment. NHS has an unspoken rule of taking a rigorous schedule, leading clubs, attend extracurricular, and put ourselves under high pressure. The standards at NHS are high, but I believe the students rise to the occasion. We have a sense that our hard work makes a difference. Sophomore: WOW. I'm a sophomore currently attending and the experience is awesome. Amazing teachers and classmates, lots of diversity, they help to make sure you're succeeding, and if I could give a higher rating than five stars for sports I would. So far, I've made a lot of friends from many different and diverse groups that will respect you for who you are. And the teachers, for the most part, are witty and fun. If I were to have only one complaint it would be the whole diversity equity and inclusion thing, all an implementation of critical race theory. But that's a district-wide issue. Parent: As a parent, the most important factor is your child feeling like he matters, their goals matter, and that teachers/counselors are invested in both. Brother Rice does this in spades. While things like facilities (which they improve every summer), outstanding college prep academics, and parent involvement help make this school culture great, it is the opportunities to thrive, find new interests, create/join as many clubs as they like, be part of many different circles, and to feel like their teachers care about them that sets Brother Rice apart. Brother Rice goes deep with State Championships in several sports, but the rumor that only sports kids will thrive here is false. Junior: My Seaholm experience has been pretty good so far. I'm currently a junior, and while this year has been difficult, I feel like I'm being academically challenged without feeling like I'm drowning in coursework. While the honors and AP classes are well taught, the regular level courses can be a lot of busy work. I'm part of several minority groups, and while my experience has been fine, I know that a lot of people face struggles because of it. Seaholm is a very white school and it can be difficult for BIPOC students. The administration is very open to change though, and does a good job of trying to listen to student perspectives....
