Parent: All 3 of my children will have went through Barkley Bridge. I just moved my oldest to college, my middle is in Jr HIGH, my youngest at Barkley. As a parent I appreciate the love the teacher's & staff have for our children. I also appreciate the hard work that they put into going above and beyond to make sure they are thoroughly educated to teach our children to the maximum ability. Junior: I love Hartselle High School. It has formed me to be the person I am today. The extracurricular activities and academics are amazing. There are over 12 academies for students to apply their careers to. There are so many clubs you can join and themselves too. I had the opportunity to build relationships with my peers, teachers, and people outside of my school system. The volunteer service opportunities are amazing and allow for great experiences helping others. The academics are very rigid, so we all have to make sure we stay true to out studying and grades. Parent: HIS has significantly contributed to my child both academically, socially and emotionally this year. Despite all of the Pandemic barriers this year brought on, excellent in person learning(and virtual) was provided and teachers went above and beyond to help my child remediate and enrich his skills. Their focus on the social/emotional health and character development of my child has left a long lasting impression that “someone really does care.” From the administration daily greeting at Carline, to the counselor’s encouraging words, to the student led teams, a parent couldn’t ask for a better place for their child to belong. Alum: Overall, I had a good high school experience. My freshman and sophomore years were quite easy, as I think they should have been, since they allowed me to enjoy the things I learned without being drowned by them. When Junior year came around the difficulty increased, but the quality of the teachers only slightly, leading to a more difficult year. As a result, the Covid pandemic, which struck that spring and sent us home felt more like a breath of fresh air than an exile. Senior year, though, was a complete turnaround. While classes became even more arduous, the quality of the teachers was legendary, and they smoothed out the rough edges of the course material, even making the work enjoyable. These teachers truly cared about their students; not the grades they made, but what they learned and how they improved. Sophomore: I have had an amazing time attending Austin High School! The community is overall a tight knit family and so welcoming. I have enjoyed being a part of the cheer team in which the whole school whole heartedly supports our endeavors. I do on the other hand wish that the school offered more chances to partake in different groups. Because students are only allowed to have a certain amount of classes each year it minimizes the amount of groups and activities that student are able to partake in. I believe the school should set up opportunities like more clubs outside of these classes that the students can join, other than just National Honor Society, ambassadors, language clubs, and sports.... Senior: Being newly built, the school's outer appearance is perfect; nonetheless, the school's interior lacks in its appearance. Some that attend the school refers to the interior as a prison. The administration is perfect! Teachers always attempt to make personal connections with the students to allow for a better learning experience. Also, tools are given to students by teachers to ensure that their learning needs are met. Multiple different classes are offered that make sure that each student's needs and desires for their future are met. The schools lack in clubs due to the limited amount that is offered.
