Senior: Overall a pretty good school. Most of the teachers are really nice and the school has lots of AP/Pre-AP/Honors classes. Some of the administration/office staff can be tough to deal with sometimes and there seems to be a lack of communication between the what the teachers want/need and what admin thinks should happen. Works Here: I worked at Sigsbee Charter School for 10 years. Those were the happiest years of my career. The school is small enough to be responsive, large enough to be diverse, and only the best teachers stand the test of time. The student population is held to high expectations of kindness. Senior: I have enjoyed my 4 years at this school. I am part of the band and that has been my most enjoyable experience. I appreciate that they have dual enrollment opportunities and AP/Honors classes. What I would like to see change is more guidance and interest in college preparations, scholarship opportunities, etc. My parents are very involved but had to prompt my guidance counselors for information. Parent: As a parent of a VPK & Kindergartner, I cannot say enough good things about May Sands. I did traditional classroom learning where you sit in a desk and a teacher teaches. I was nervous and skeptical that my child wasn't going to learn or wasn't going to be forced to do "work" activities. This program is AMAZING! Everything they do is hands-on and is accompanied by bookwork. They learn together and teach others which only reinforces their own learning. Middle School Student: good school great teachers this was the school I went to after Sigsbee where I would go home crying because of the students and teachers and at HOB I would never go home crying i was failing maths before I went to HOB but once I got there I was passing every class I had because the teacher would adapt to how I learned they did that for every student would recommend this school so much more then Sigsbee Charter School... Senior: I really like Somerset Island Prep because it is a really great environment for students to learn and be able to focus and do college classes. What I like about Somerset Island Prep is that the teachers are always willing to help and the students are very nice and respectful. Teachers give one on one help with the students. Niche User: I had the pleasure of spending several days at the Montessori Children's School of Key West in May. While I've known the school for many years, I had the opportunity to get an inside look at the culture and educational program from early morning to the end of the day in every classroom. The setting is absolutely adorable. The school’s leadership is admirable. The current head of school, Amy O'Connor, went to the school as a child and has been part of the school as a parent, teacher, and, for the last eight years, as the school’s administrator. She is knowledgeable, dedicated, and beloved. I found the teachers, children, and families to be a lovely community. I highly recommend the school to anyone with a child from age 1-1/2 to 12 who is considering a move to Key West or is already part of the community. This is a great little school.
