Alum: Wilberforce really embodies the meaning of community. Every family shares the common faith, and all are eager to lend a helping hand. Inside and outside the classroom, students are encouraging each other constantly and bond quickly with others within and across grades. Playing sports is encouraged, and spending time with other talented teammates builds relationships across grade levels. Wilberforce has so many amazing opportunities for students and families to contribute, especially because it is a growing school. The academics are rigorous and striking a unique balance between STEM and humanities, which is something I miss about my experience in college. However, Wilberforce is lacking in some areas such as non-academic support and a safe space to suggest improvements, especially for particular (and maybe reoccurring) circumstances. Senior: West Windsor Plainsboro High School North (HSN) has provided me with many great experiences. I believe that there are three main components of the HSN experience: education, fun, and culture. The education that HSN provides is of a fairly high quality, with the district as a whole being quite competitive. The teachers tend to be fair, understanding, and sociable, and the curriculum is useful and interesting. The only negative aspect of HSN education is that some teachers don't teach, leaving students to learn the content. For certain content-heavy courses, this can make it extremely hard for students to learn and prepare for exams. The fun aspect of HSN is great! HSN offers a variety of fun events throughout the year and a moderate amount of freedom to its students. However, that freedom has decreased with new rules such as: "No eating or drinking in study hall." Senior: MCA which is now rebranded as Edison Academy Magnet School is very strong at it's brand, but tends to neglect other areas. The course rigor and breadth in STEM in unparalleled, the students are all very motivated and extremely strong in STEM subjects, and students are provided with every resource to succeed in college as well as get into a top-tier school. However, humanities and arts other than history and English are practically non-existent. The only way to partake in them is at the county college it is housed on. Additionally, the academic mindset can be extremely toxic when almost every student scores an A on most tests and the goal to attend a top 20 university is in the mind of every student. Additionally, the focus on STEM many times takes away from the dimensions of students. Ultimately, this school is amazing for a student absolutely committed to STEM. Junior: I have been at Timothy since Kindergarten and am now currently a junior. I have loved all 12 years that I have been here and it has been an amazing experience! Timothy has provided me with plenty of opportunities both academically, spiritually, and athletically. In the realm of athletics, I am currently a 4 sport athlete doing soccer, basketball, track, and baseball for Timothy. In academics, I am taking 3 APs and a dual enrollment class; I am also a part of the leader academy, STEM, the vice president of the student council, and the stakeholders club. Timothy has also helped me spiritually through the teachers, chapels, and discipleship groups which help to guide me in my walk with the Lord. Excellent academic programs paired with strong athletic offerings, thrilling clubs and activities, and a Campus Ministry program based in service, brotherhood, and spiritual development all create a unique atmosphere that appeals to a broad range of students. Numerous successful alumni have benefited from the amazing programs at Saint Joseph High School and the connections they have made with other successful alumni. Furthermore, many have sent their sons to continue in the tradition of excellence. If I could do it again, I would do it in a heartbeat. I am looking forward to sending my sons their and having them join my nephews as well. Keep up the amazing work SJHS. It is worth every penny! They truly care about each and every student in the school - in their academic, personal, and social growth and development. Senior: Being the sole female drum major in the South Brunswick Viking Marching Band has been a challenging experience. While I heard stories about female leaders encountering obstacles in various fields, I never expected to experience them at such a young age. I assumed that as I grew older and took on a leadership position, I would be accepted for my capabilities rather than doubted because of my gender. It was shocking to see stereotypes influencing not only the young men in my community but also young women who should empathize with those facing the same hardships they may encounter later on. Parent: Our daughter attended the HS and graduated in 2020. She was involved in marching band, theater, swim team and many other activities. For a small HS, the band is really impressive in providing the kids a community and competition (going annually to compete with other bands at the Meadowlands). Granted the football team is not great (the marching band forgot how to play the touchdown song), but despite that no one is looked down on and everyone is supportive of each other. There are many clubs and the school is supportive of students who want to form new clubs or organizations. The PTA is outstanding in funding academic materials needed and the school supports the students/teachers fundraise trips to Boston (Harvard Model Congress), Disney (Band competition), the Galapagos, Europe and other locations. Sophomore: I like that J.P. Stevens High School is competitive in numerous aspects. It is a good academic school that encourages its students to work and study hard for their future. The school is not only great academically, but when it comes to sports, J.P. Stevens doesn't mess around! Our swim team, which I've been on since I've come to the school, is competitive and truly makes the sport enjoyable. J.P. Stevens's environment is also fulfilling. The administration makes the effort to ensure that the school is an accepting and safe place. By providing resources to the students, such as counselors, many students feel as though they are able to open up about topics such as mental health. Our school has "No Homework Days" to lessen the stress of the constant amount of homework that is typically assigned. Senior: It was a school where I had to grow, for better or for worse. The school is tiny, so everyone in your grade will know each other. While this let me build some great bonds with people, it also means that you're stuck with the personality people assume you have. Even though we were small, we are cliquey. The education varies in quality. There are some good teachers, but the staff does not communicate with each other and some teachers believe that piling on assignments and making tests incredibly difficult will ensure that the rigor of the curriculum is preserved. However, I learned a ton and it affirmed that medicine was the field for me, and that's a discovery I would not have made in a regular high school. You also learn to develop your sense and understanding of self separate from your grades or education. Everyone here is smart! So you undergo a lot of self introspection and rediscover yourself.... Senior: I rate East Brunswick High School 5 stars. During my junior year especially, I appreciate how well organized my school was during the pandemic. They heavily modified their system and made virtual learning accessible to everyone. The school apps used were easy to navigate through, and especially during such a difficult time, I exceeded in my classes. The teachers are amazing, and integrated compassion through each of their lessons. With their challenging but interesting curriculum, emphasized the importance of leadership, and pushed me to think outside of the box. My teachers truly invested in my education and worked to see their students' achievements. The classes taught are engaging and open new broad opportunities and ideas for its students. There are different sports events, ranging from football to soccer and wrestling, bring the school spirit to an even higher level than before. Middle School Student: John Adams Middle School is in Edison, New Jersey, educating 6th through 8th graders. It is helped by diversity and academics, but is affected by fights and overcrowding. Overall, it is a very good school. Firstly, John Adams is diverse. People come from homes speaking Gujarati, Mandarin, and other languages. The school also closes for holidays like Diwali and Eid. Thankfully, the student body is friendly with every race. The school also does well academically. Students have won competitions like the National Geographic Bee. Students also perform well on the PARCC/NJ-SLA, with 70% of students achieving Level 5 mastery in certain topics. However, some issues affect the school. Overcrowding is a major issue, as many move to attend John Adams. Additionally, a small group of people fight often and slow down congested hallways. The academics are first-rate, The grading system is more rigorous than most public schools (7o out of 100 is the lowest passing grade). Athletics has 26 different teams for boys, girls and coed. Great school spirit and camaraderie. They have a Marching Band! The BEST PART of STA is the Music, Fine Arts and Performing Arts departments.
