Marquette Senior High School
#1 Best Public High Schools in Marquette County

Senior: I love how welcoming Marquette Senior High School is to incoming students and how they offer programs for people who want to study abroad. Also, there is plenty of options for academics, arts, music, and more! However, if I could change anything, it would be how much funds are put into the art programs, music programs, and the metals shop and wood shop. Additionally, I would change the lunches since, not only are they not appetizing, but they don't seem to be that healthy since the fruit is rotting and the lunches themselves have too much grease.

Senior: I am now a senior at Westwood High School and am thoroughly impressed with the school's flexibility to accommodate to any student's needs. Westwood offers a variety of classes to gear their students to whatever vocation or college readiness needed, and they even allow their students to dual enroll at Northern Michigan University. Now that I am almost graduated, I feel completely prepared and ready for my next step in life thanks to Westwood.

Negaunee High School
#3 Best Public High Schools in Marquette County
- Negaunee Public Schools, MI

Senior: Academics at Negaunee are great - everyone has the opportunity to take at least four years of math and four years of science. While the curriculum can be as difficult or as easy as you want, there will always be support for you whether it be in a teacher or a study group. One thing I would like to see change is the school's absolute devotion to sports. I understand that sports and pep rallies get most people together, but there aren't many other options for extracurriculars. A friend and I started an art club in the fall of 2017 and we got a decent response; however, we didn't get a ton of support from the faculty.

Ishpeming High School

Niche User: Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Ishpeming High School and I wouldn't go back in time to change a thing.
IHS is located in a very small community, so one must get used to the fact that people tend to be very nosey and cause un-needed drama with each other. You can't keep much to yourself without people finding out and making their own assumptions on the topic and spreading it around by word of mouth (and social media) to others. Its something that can become very, very annoying and unwanted... but those things also helped me grow a thicker skin--I learned not to care what people think of me and to just do what makes me happy regardless of what others think or say.
Ishpeming High School is also a school centered around sports--mainly football. The parents, teachers, and students have always been infatuated with athletics. One down side to this is that many non-athletic students are considered "unpopular" and are even treated differently by the teachers and staff of IHS. Some people assume that the non-athletes are not as great of kids as the athletes because they have too much time on their hands that isn't spent at practices or playing games. This is not always the case, but many people see it to be so.
I also learned from attending IHS and living in a small society that I wanted to attend an out of state college so I could experience new environments, cultures, and people. Doing so has broadened my horizons dramatically. I now get to live in and experience two different environments at school and at home.

Parent: Great academics and staff mostly! Guidance counselor does NOT help H.S. student with college apps or looking foe local scholarships, students must navigate this on their own. It would be great if someone would help them figure out how at the school. Some parents do not know these things.

Senior: Going to the Republic Michigamme school has been a great experience, because they are so one on one with the students. It's great also because with a smaller school you know everyone in your class to a personal level, and see them a lot through out the day.

Parent: Love the small classes and family feel if the school. Teachers are very approachable and concerned about the development, education and well-being if the students. My children love going here! The element of faith is an integral part of the school and another aspect that sets it apart.
