Junior: People often hear the "all girls" thing and immediately create their own ideas of what our school is like without even going there a day. Talkington SYWL has been ranked THE best school in Lubbock year after year for a reason. Whether you want to talk about the incredible educators and staff, the close bonds with your classmates, the tight-knit community, or the beyond-amazing educational opportunities, there are endless things to celebrate about Talkington. I have been attending since the Fall of 2018, and I have never once considered another school. We push ourselves academically here, all while creating incredible bonds and memories. We don't have typical high school events (football, etc.), so we have/create our own (which many consider to be even more fun)! The tight bond I feel with my class is something so special. The school offers many opportunities for everyone, instructors and staff are willing to assist students in any way they can in order to help them receive a top-notch education while also fostering a sense of community, friends, and helpful staff. Parent: Our child has attended Roscoe Wilson from Kindergarten to 4th grade (so far) and we have been amazed year after year at the quality of teachers to the extracurricular activities (field trips to orchards and the ballet, chess clubs, etc). We have felt that our child was safe, loved, challenged academically, and was instilled a connection with the community and the world. They really think outside the box. Standardized tests are not their first priority, rather they focus on teaching students the importance of critical thinking, exploring their world, and the power of the arts (theater, art, music, and Spanish are taught to every grade level).... Senior: The school is amazing when it comes to advanced academics, being able to contend with even the best high schools in Texas! However, the school is adamant in "preserving" the school as a museum, but that came at the cost of horrible restrooms and questionable materials. Many of the tiles still have asbestos underneath them, and the chandeliers to the old entrance have rusted to the point that they're all stationary at an awkward angle. Senior: I love how safe our school is! I’ve never once felt like I was unsafe or unsure of my safety. I also love the classes they offer. Most schools don’t have the elective courses we do. Parent: We brought our kids here from a private school that was riddled with problems (academic, social, and more), not knowing what to expect. We have been blown away by the competence and expertise of the teachers, the responsible leadership, and the warmth of the community. My children are thriving and I could not be more grateful. Alum: I love Roosevelt Highschool! I am very proud to have graduated from such an amazing school! I loved waking up every morning to go to school eager to learn more and more everyday! There were a few things I would have changed while attending Roosevelt. For instance, I would have changed some of the disciplinary actions at the school. Sometimes the students would do things and get in trouble but the staff would overlook the problem. I felt like there should have been alittle more action and procedures that should have took place in those moments! Overall Roosevelt Highschool is an extraordinary school. I am very proud to tell people that I graduated from Roosevelt highschool! I've made so many memories, friends, and even formed a family while attending Roosevelt.
