Parent: Wonderful K-8 charter school. Very friendly family environment. Hands on learning opportunities such as planting food in the hoop house, making maple syrup from tapping trees to bottling, and making a mud oven which the kids cook homemade pizza in! Tons of classes, activities and sports such as soccer, Volleyball, basketball, track, archery, robotics, scouts, Bee keepers, gardening, recycling, bowling, yoga, dance, theater, symphony orchestra, choir, and many different forms of Art!... Middle School Student: I think Almont Middle School is a great school with many opportunities for the kids futures. There are definitely many positive sides to this school. First of all, the teachers are very caring for the kids and they want to help any way possible that they can to improve their learning. Second, the teachers tactics are very good, because they use ways that children understand. They also have fun ways for them to learn, like baking healthy treats for health class or painting a pumpkin of the world with all of the continents on them. Last of all, Almont Middle School helps kids challenge themselves to new and harder levels of their brains. There are very few negative sides to Almont Middle School. The only negative part of the school is lunch. Many lunch foods aren't very appetizing, such as the frozen pizza that they reheat or the cold chicken that they unfreeze. Parent: My sons (age 6&9) are very happy. Although my oldest went through a lot of ups and downs. He’s gifted and talented and very shy, and it took them awhile to keep him from being “swept under the rug” seems the good kids and accelerated learning kids weren’t given anything to stretch their learning until last year they tested him for a new gifted and talented multi age project based learning class. He’s been in the COMPASS program this year and we are very happy they have started this. It’s given him more responsibility and confidence. I can say the staff is always available to address any concerns and updates anytime and have a great communication system. We love our school and love that they are expanding their technology! Alum: I was lucky to have a very good high school experience at Imlay City Highschool. I was constantly meeting new, accepting people and receiving a tremendous support by all staff I had the honor of having as mentors, teachers and supporters. I would however say that I did realize that was not always the case for everyone around me. I would like for my school to further attempt to offer resources for students to feel like they have supporters regardless how hopeless they feel and I personally know that not everyone felt that way.... Parent: I have been a student at Almont for four years and am very impressed with the school. First of all, I would like to identify that I may be a little bias, since my Mom is a teacher, but I really like the community. I am currently in Scouts BSA, Bowling, Baseball, NHS, and band. There are so many other opportunities for students to carve how they want their high school experience to be like. My school may not have the latest and greatest technology or the best architecture (some of the clocks are broken), but the teachers constantly try to see the bright side. I remember an art teacher who saw a that the clock in her classroom was broke, so she placed a sign over top that said "Time flies when you having fun!" Senior: The experience has been pretty great. There are some amazing teachers and classmates that are attending or working at lapeer high school. I have many friends and everyone there is friendly. There is many hard working students that help drive the people around them making an environmental that is fun to learn in. The school is fairly small with hallways connecting to one main hallway making it a bit crowded but I believe that is the one issue this school has. Senior: High School can be a challenging part of so many lives. I have attended North Branch Area Schools since first grade. Our school has changed rules and expectations but we still haven't controlled bullying. I wish that we could be more proactive when we do see bullying, I wish we could punish those who are bullies and not just let them get away with whatever they want. If I had to pinpoint a certain point that I would consider the best part of my experience as a high schooler is right now, I love the school atmosphere and I am currently taking college classes at my local ed-tech. I get to push myself academically but still get to enjoy going to school sporting events. The worst part of high school for me is the bullying. Senior: Quest sticks out dramatically from traditional high schools and I’ll tell you why. Attending traditional high schools, you do the same thing every day. Here, we switch it up so often everybody loves it. We love change, we don’t love sticking to the same plan. We also get treated as adults & our teachers focus on the bigger things. They make sure to prepare us for the real world. Respect is taken very seriously at Quest. You can’t disrespect someone, especially your teacher, and expect respect in return right? But you can respect them & expect it back & that’s exactly what happens. I adore my fellow classmates, we’re all sure to make sure everyone feels included & enough.
