Senior: Lumen Christi Catholic School has been my home for 6 years now. It has changed tremendously in just a year or two. Covid-19 pushed Lumen Christi to be better and they never gave up during those times. I always felt like the teachers were trying the best they could during those trying times. While many policies did not seem thoroughly designed, the education was still top tier and I feel I learned just as well during those times. We have made exceptional advances to our outdoor and indoor facilities such as the baseball field, locker rooms, bathrooms, and science rooms. Senior: My experience at Jackson High has been overall great! Even with COVID-19 ending my freshman year early. The teachers and staff kept positive energy through zooms and activities that we could participate in virtually. I love that my high schools offers 2 dual enrollment programs to students like me who are trying to save money and earn college credits for free. I also enjoy the many clubs at my school that is open to everyone. Student Government is my favorite! Not because I am the president of it, but because every student that participates in this group is kind, creative, and open-minded. We get to make our peers happy by planning events like pep rallies, spirit weeks, dances, and more. If there was one thing I could change about my school it would be the lunch menu. Since we are a closed campus school, my only option is to bring a lunch or eat the lunch food. I don't mind eating the lunch food, but I have seen a pattern of the same foods everyday.... Alum: My experience at Western High School was above average! Most of the teachers were memorable and taught well, and the ones that didn't teach well were few in comparison. The variety of classes was nice to have! There weren't a lot of clubs or after school activities compared to other schools in the ISD, but there were school productions put on for theater, choir, and bands as well as many sports teams. I felt safe in my time in the school until my senior year (2020-2021). I was coming to terms with my queer identity and with the political tension from COVID, BLM protests, and the nationwide aggression against LGBT+-individuals, combined with some teachers' lack of care with the pandemic safety measures, I felt unsafe to be myself in that environment. Diversity was not treated well or welcomed outside of the bare minimum. Out queer students were harassed by students and the punishments to harassment were lackluster. Junior: Jackson Preparatory and Early College is an amazing school for many reasons. I love attending JPEC because the teachers are so helpful, everybody there is so accepting, and it actually feels like a safe environment to learn in. Our administrative staff is the best and they really try to have a personal relationship with the students. They are always checking up in the classrooms and letting students know that they are able to talk to them. Along with having an amazing staff, there is an amazing student body. Our current class president is very involved and is always trying to find new ways to advocate for the students. In my personal opinion, this is one of the best schools for all types of students.... Senior: Napoleon High School is a good school for a small town. There are some nice people and teachers that you could talk to about anything. The teachers generally care about how you are doing each day. Marching band is very fun and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested. The band is fun in general, but marching band, in my opinion, is better. There are many extracurricular activities to do, including sports. I think Napoleon Community Schools is a good school district and I would recommend it to anyone if they want to live in a small town. Alum: Small. People say close-knit but can sometimes be cliquey. A very safe school. One of the largest issues is a push towards the career center and away from college prep. If students take the AP track instead of joining career center, they will be well prepared for their future. Some very supportive and great staff, though some are also (frankly) incompetent. Senior: Northwest is home to me. It is a place I feel so comfortable in, and if I had a choice, I'd stay forever if I could. High school is one of the best experiences a kid goes through and it is something that I looked forward too since I started school. Although my senior year was not supposed to go like this, Northwest is working hard to make it the best they can just like they do with everything else. Northwest provides a wonderful staff who dedicates all of their time to us kids, and we students are beyond grateful for them, without them we wouldn't be who we are today. My school made everyday a good day, everyone was close and we all feel like a family. No, this may not be the senior year we wanted, but I am making a promise to myself to make sure I strive this year and make the best of the situation.
