Alum: I graduated class of 2023, and I can say hands down that McNair has been one of the most formative experiences I have had in my life. I have learned so much thanks to the teachers and friends that have supported me. There is truly a very collaborative environment here, and everyone is supported every step along the way. There are plenty of opportunities regarding AP courses and extracurriculars. I was part of the Epsilon Math Team, Mock Trial, and various honor societies, and I founded Mathemagicians Tutoring which connects McNair students to Cordero middle schoolers and offers free math tutoring. Junior: High Tech High school is a welcoming and friendly school. Has always been a positive environment to learn in and, for the most part, the teachers and staff are likeable and kind. The only issues I have encountered were regarding the lack of communication between the school board and the students. If the students' and teachers' voices were more heard, and some change was made regarding communication and organization of events and changes, I would have nearly nothing negative to say about the school. Overall, would recommend upcoming freshmen to apply. Junior: I like County Prep High School because of its diversity and outstanding academic standing. There are students from all over Hudson County enrolled in this school. Parent: It's an amazing that Hoboken has this school as an option in town. The teachers are fully committed to the dual language immersion model and my children are speaking beautiful Spanish around the home. But, my kids are also doing great in "traditional" academics -- their English writing is better than kids their age in other schools. Parent: I have two children, one currently attending grade 4 and one in the middle school. Both children started at Brandt in PK3. We could not be more thrilled with our, and our childrens', experience. They have received a top notch, academically strong education coupled with the caring and nurturing of incredible teachers, staff and administrators. The school focuses on the whole child. Beyond academics which includes STEAM tank challenges, STEM, G&T through John Hopkins and more, they also focus on social emotional well being and the arts. There is a wonderful after school program called Passport to Learning which offers enrichment courses (anything from the arts, cartooning to chess), homework and free time. Junior: I love it here. The atmosphere, teachers, students, and everything is excellent here at Weehawken High School. I came from High Tech in Secaucus following my freshman and sophomore years and I'm so happy I made the switch. The biggest change is definitely the administration which is simply, perfect. Senior: This school is heavily focused on biology and chemistry research and students going into those majors will excel here. There is not a lot of physics and engineering involvement at our school so a student in those majors struggle to find programs to do. Alum: This school is a good school to go to if you live in Jersey city: decent education for cheap, the school is horribly underfunded and the teachers aren’t paid very much so they struggle to keep teachers, most teachers are good but some are annoying. K-5 classes have a great community but in the middle school people transfer in and out and a lot of annoying people come in. Parent: I am the parent of an upcoming senior. My son and I chose this school because of the academics, diversity, and sports/club activities that it offered. My son is pretty active and needed to be in a school that could support his athletic ability as well as his academics. 90% of students from Hudson Catholic go on to pursue college education overall I am pretty happy with the school. However, the one thing that I am not happy with is that the high school does not offer SAT coursework for students. There is a significant gap between what students cover in school and what's on the SAT exam. Middle School Student: This school is pretty good. If you're quiet in class, the teachers will like you and be more lenient. Furthermore, with the exception of some teachers, they all are pretty easy to talk to. What I have found out is that after each year, I like my teachers a bit more because I open up and talk more. However, over all, A1 has many good teachers. One last thing you need to know: Academy 1 favors the bold. Always be the first to ask the question, the first to answer the question, and the first to help the teacher. If you do all this and keep your grades up, you will leave an impression. Parent: My children goes to this school since it opened its gates. It has a very welcoming environment and a family friendly school. Approaching the management is very easy and always get the information we are looking for. Academically, this school follows a very positive approach and set a very high standards for student's learning. Apart from the State testing NJSLA (former PARCC), this school also assess the children via MAPS. This testing method will be three times during the year, to continuously monitor student's progress. Teachers are very much committed to make the students acheive their academic goals set during the starting of the years. This school also has Micro-society program which is the concept that it is being built on and all the children will take part in this every day for one school hour. Junior: Generally, everyone at Secaucus High School has practically grown up with each other. All the way from pre-k to now, everyone has stayed within this town. It’s comforting, growing up with these people, and that mainly attributes to the overall atmosphere at Secaucus. Even if you’re a transfer student, the students don’t fail to make you feel welcomed amongst everyone. It’s that warming sense of tradition that encapsulates the energy of the school really well. The fact that we’re all graduating next year integrates into me that I’ll never see most of these people ever again and that surprisingly saddens me. They’re all wonderful, including the teachers, who have also stayed here relatively for the most part.
