Parent: I've had 3 children go through this school, all 3 were very different. All of them loved it, the teachers and staff are very attentive to each student. We moved from JCPS (horrible) to Floyds Knobs just for these schools, the academics are far about any other school in KY and IN. The arts programs are the best in the state. As far as race, the kids that live around here do to this school, there is nothing the school can do about that, nor should they be rated on that. Senior: Floyd Central has given me numerous opportunities to excel and progress as a student. Their academics are top notch and it is home to some of the best teachers I have had the pleasure of meeting and studying under. The school is relatively large and this is where more of my worse experiences come in. Floyd has been relatively overwhelmed every year when schedules are supposed to be made. They also have a tendency to block students from taking certain classes because of their grade level such as me being blocked from taking AP US history my Sophomore year. Floyd struggles with class timing which makes students in higher-level classes decide between two classes they want to take; for example, this past year I wanted to take AP Physics 2 and AP Government but the periods overlapped so I could only take one. Junior: My experience with Christian Academy has been phenomenal. I have been going there since I was in preschool and I have made many lifelong friends. The teachers are extremely personable and value students above any curriculum or grade. Everyone knows each other, and it always nice to see familiar faces while walking through the halls. Alum: What I liked about New Albany High School is that in Indiana, there aren't barely any high schools that are diverse. New Albany has about 2,000 students and there is so much diversity and you can really find people to make friends with, if you don't have friends coming in. The staff is understanding and they do their best to help you get ready for college or the work force throughout the entire 4 years. I do wish that they would have been harder on us on applying for scholarships during our freshman, sophomore, and junior year because I think that everyone thinks that you can only be a senior in high school and that is not the case. Alum: I was one of the first group of fifth graders who went to Hazelwood instead of remaining at the elementary level for another year. It was an interesting experioience, I was in the excel program for the two first years and loved the teachers but I know they aren’t there anymore. I always ate sack lunch because I didn’t like the food, I’d gotten expired materials before, the facilities had been updated since I was there and they are very nice. Senior: Community Montessori is a good school but it isn't the school for everyone. I believe it does well for the younger side but when you get up to the older areas, it gets a bit iffy. With all the freedom it brings, a student can either thrive in it or suffer massive consequences. I think I do okay with the freedom, even though my first year at Montessori was a bit of a learning curve I had to get over, I know some people that are failing tremendously because they have no sense of urgency due to the lack of structure.
