Jordan High School
#8 Best Public High Schools in Durham County
Senior: It's very difficult to rate this school because everyone has a different experience. This is mainly due to the influence of tracking on which academic courses are taken. Through AP/honors courses, some great teachers, and enjoyable extracurriculars, I have become prepared for college. The school is improving and has dedicated administration, however, lack of funds are a major setback (especially for departments like the arts). Over half of the student body is on free/reduced lunch and many classes are over capacity, so more financial support would help.
Our sports, theatre department, and variety of clubs are fantastic ways to get involved at school and a large source of our school spirit. I've enjoyed some of the PBIS incentives (like quarterly breakfasts), close proximity to restaurants for off campus lunches, and the 9am start time (say what you will about that). Overall, my rating is due to my personal experience and the success that many students have found post-graduation.
