Works Here: I work at The Darrow School and my experience has been amazing. The curriculum is top-notch, with faculty and staff that are committed to the students and each other. The school culture is warm, respectful and embracing of everyone. Students are engaged, encouraged and supported in all facets of boarding school life for a well-rounded experience that promotes healthy socio-emotional, academic and physical development.
Darrow has amazing facilities and program offerings for a small, independent boarding school. Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School
- Private School
- Ghent, NY
- PK, K-12
- Rating 3.44 out of 5 9 reviews
Alum: The lower and middle school were definitely good when I was there. Certain aspects of the high school are absolutely wonderful and others are not so good. Some of the teachers are stellar but you also find the few don't seem to be equipped to teach at a Waldorf school. The academics that HVS does cover are very good and provide valuable learning experiences. The school is heavily art based and while they do cover the sciences, they cover them in a completely different way from any other school I know. While this too is valuable it can make the transition from high school to a science based college major more difficult.

Ichabod Crane Senior High School
- Kinderhook Central School District, NY
- Rating 3.34 out of 5 71 reviews
Senior: When it comes to providing a memorable and accommodating high school experience, the teachers at Ichabod Crane High School go above and beyond. The relatively small class sizes allow students and teachers to connect on a deeper level, which leads to a more fulfilling educational experience overall. Teachers and staff are always ready and willing to help out a student in need; you'll often see them during after school hours working with students on topics they are struggling with, or just helping them get some extra work done. Despite being situated in a rural town with little diversity and having a lack of funding for less popular activities, like some women's sports teams, the school provides an all-around positive experience for students of all backgrounds. Ichabod's many clubs, such as Sala Latina International Student Organization, Girls' Athletic Council, and Pride Club, provide an opportunity-filled community for students of minority which combats the school's lack of diversity.

Alum: I transferred into the Chatham Central School district on the middle of my eight grade year. I felt welcomed right away. I joined the bowling team and was welcomed right away. The teachers made my transition painless. The food was alright, not spectacular, but edible. The teachers and students interact well with each other
I absolutely feel that the teachers are approachable and have a open door policy. Over all, my experience in the Chatham School district was a positive one.

Hudson Junior/Senior High School
- Hudson City School District, NY
- Rating 3.02 out of 5 43 reviews
Senior: I've attended the Hudson Junior/Senior High school for four years. Throughout those years, I've had an interesting experience. Despite the necessary in-school cop being around every corner to prevent dangerous situations and the bad school lunch, the best thing about Hudson High was the diversity. No school around the area compares to how diverse this school is and the opportunities it provides for the students. I was glad to have gone to Hudson High for my high school education.

Mountain Road School
- Private School
- East Nassau, NY
- PK, K-8
- Rating 5 out of 5 1 review
Parent: Mountain Road School is different, and it is obvious from the first moment you step foot on the school grounds. It's a small school, only around 50 students from pre-k through 8th grade enrolled at any one time, and it's a true gem of a school. To say it's just a community is not really true... it's more of a family. Every student knows and cares about each other, and perhaps the true magic is watching the children interact with each other on the playground and in class. They honestly care for each other and are aware of each other's feelings- something that's somehow missing in our over-tech'd world of today. They spend more time being children... playing in the beautiful woods surrounding the school, taking part in nature classes, and having extended recess periods. Someone who might be looking for a school off the beaten path that provides a great education in addition to fostering an appreciation for nature and human connection is looking for Mountain Road School.
