Freshman: Savannah arts is an amazing place! The music and arts program is one of the top in the state, and for good reason. The school culture is one of love and acceptance, both from teachers and students. Sometimes I wonder about safety though. While there is a metal detector for students coming in late, there is nothing stopping students from using other doors and letting each other in and out. Senior: My experiences at the school have been wonderful and the school has many fun traditions the students partake in each year. The community is very large, though there is a lack of inclusiveness. The school is also very expensive. Besides the tuition itself, the school asks for large amounts of money almost monthly and sports have become very expensive to partake in. Alum: I went to SCPS for the entirety of my pre-college education. Nursery through Senior year of high-school. The teachers and faculty are the best around. It is hard to find people who so obviously care about not only the education your child is receiving but the well- being of your child as a whole. The education in itself is beyond excellent. Right from what is “childhood education,” they are making sure there are no gaps anywhere. I would say they are close to perfecting what each child needs and they make it happen. Going into middle and high-school they are preparing you for college and the future that lies ahead. The main thing with any school is, you get out what you put in. Parent: The experience with Benedictine Military School has been outstanding. Alum: I transferred to Calvary Day my sophomore year and instantly fell in love. I graduated this year and had an overall amazing experience. The one on one with teachers is unmatched and all the students are extremely involved in extracurriculars. Calvary not only supports athletes, but has a growing fine arts program that will continue to only get better and better. Parent: This is a gem of a school. The collaborative approach with the teachers and students is impressive. This is a no traditional environment that encourages the students to think outside the box. They give the students real world problems to solve, like access to clean water or curing the flu! Expect to see students working together in the classrooms and hallways. The teachers collaborate and teach across curriculum. For instance the research class looks at viruses and the ELA class reads a text about viruses. This level of reinforcement ensures the students really understand the materials. The administration is very supportive and encouraging to the staff, students and families. This school is amazing. Senior: I attended St. Vincent’s Academy for all four years of high school. Compared to other high schools it’s honestly an excellent school. They incredibly prepared me for college and got my into the college of my dreams. The only problem they have is the strictness and controlling nature of the administration. I’m convinced they want the best for us but they are often hypocritical and have their priorities out of whack. I don’t regret going to St. Vincent’s since I made excellent friendships that will last me a lifetime and plenty of confidence to continue my education. Parent: My children have been at this school since K, and my oldest is now entering 6th (as they are expanding into middle school). He had the opportunity to go to a different well-received school in town for middle and chose to stay because of the fantastic teachers, small class sizes, custom fit education. Parent: When our son had difficulty focusing in a chaotic Montessori academy, we knew we needed to seek out a new school for him. Memorial offered us what we thought was a better atmosphere, with much smaller class sizes and more personalized attention. That choice has led to a wonderful past five years and counting, where we were quickly made to feel part of the "family" feel of the school, and teachers continuously take special interest in making sure he grasped the material. Junior: I've been attending this school since I was in 6th grade now going on into my senior year of high school, ever since I came to Bethesda I've been able to focus better on my academics and athletics. The teachers here are great and really try to connect with me, I feel like I'm welcomed with open arms. The faculty and staff are friendly and reliable. Parent: My children are always excited to go to school, which I take as a good sign. They have progressed academically in accordance with State (and personal) expectations, and I like the diverse environment they get to experience. The Montessori Method isn't for everyone, but it seems to be a good fit for my independent children who like having the option of moving around "works" based on their interests and timetable. Senior: Overall, I really loved attending Jenkins High School. While it had its ups and downs, I would not choose another high school to attend. One of favorite parts of attending Jenkins was being able to be the Lady Warriors basketball manager. I got to create new bonds and a sisterhood that I will keep forever even after leaving Jenkins. I was never really social but this experience allowed me to come out of my shell and meet new people. I am so grateful to have this experience. Another part of Jenkins that I really enjoyed was the amount of opportunities that we had available. Being apart of the School of Engineering at Jenkins High School allowed me to have access to many gulf stream jobs, meet people who went into the engineering field, a number of scholarship opportunities, etc. The Engineering program was challenging at times but it created the strong work ethic and determination that I have now. Senior: Islands High school was had a good set of teachers that helped me personally learn outside of the conventional ways and many programs that were very hands on. These included the vet lab and the animals and getting out of the school for research. But like most schools there were teachers that just did't help and administrators that were overloaded to help me fully. But you could tell they cared they would show that they did and put in the work. The athletics could use major improvements, funding, coaching, and systems. Works Here: Marshpoint has a loving, caring atmosphere where students show their care and concern for one another by helping each other no matter race, age, or disability. The students here love to be here to be around each other and get involved in the happenings at the school. There are many dedicated and motivated instructors who spend most of their time ensuring these enthusiastic students know the curriculum provided by the state. There are even social teaching occurring. The only down fall I would say, is that some students don't get that one on one time with teachers like they should if they are struggling. Or students are not given extended lessons due to the curriculum form the state. If these aspects were to change, I believe Marshpoint would be in a better state.... Read 1 review
