Senior: Gerstell Academy provided an environment for me to prosper as an leader. I developed a moral compass and learned what it takes to lead myself and others in a positive direction. However, I wish that Gerstell had given me more leadership opportunities within the institution and more resources outside of its walls. Nevertheless, Gerstell Academy provides ever student with a team of amazing faculty who truly care about each student's individual success and happiness. The community is built on personal relationships and I loved my ability to felt seen by each member of it. Junior: Century is an incredible school with a mostly wonderful staff full of teachers who deeply care about their students and have a passion for teaching. It has very competitive athletics that continue to have successful season as well as a positive environment and high team moral. I truly do feel that I as a student has the ability to call for change within our school and that my suggestion will be considered and not just cast aside. There are so many opportunities for students to be involved whether it be through the countless student led clubs, student government, and honor societies there is a place for everyone.... Senior: It has been a journey to be a student here at Liberty High School (LHS). My freshman year was spent attending colleges through remote learning due to the pandemic. Though it was difficult to keep up with the rigorous course work and long hours, it made me more disciplined and focused on my performance as a student. The years following were overall smooth-sailing with the support of my teachers and staff at my school. A high percentage of students attending LHS excel academically and are in pursuit of higher education. They are a motivator who I am able to look up to. I try my hardest in each of my classes, and have maintained good relationships with those around me. A few things I think our school could change going into the future is better care for our learning environment's cleanliness standards, as well as improvements concerning accommodations for those with learning disabilities.... Middle school student: The clubs and music programs are the highlight of the school, with many different options on what you can do. Teachers are usually pretty decent, but some teachers are overly strict and a couple just blatantly racist. The academics are ok, but until recently the seventh grade has had a problem with a math teacher, who was very ineffective at their job, setting every student in his class back a bit in math, making the 8th grade math classes that much harder. The English language class is probably the best class, as there are many different books we read that are genuinely interesting and go through it at a decently fast rate. Alum: The best part about Westminster High School was the inclusion and involvement of the teachers. Confidently, I can remark that the teachers and staff employed there genuinely want you to be successful in not only your academics, but in your life as well. My high school calculus teacher, Mr. Potts, is definitely a teacher that I'll never forget. It takes very remarkable and skilled individuals to be teaching higher level courses, and sometimes, in fact often times in schools, the administration will hire someone who has certain qualifications, but is not very understanding of the students and their personal situations. I'd say that the worst part was more so not having any friends my junior year, for the first semester, as I was enrolled in Westminster High School my sophomore year during covid, so I wasn't able to get the chance to make friends early on, but that changed my second semester of junior year and my senior year.... Parent: We transferred here from a highly rated school in another MD county, and were honestly a bit nervous, concerned we might see a decline in quality of our child’s school experience, simply because of the ratings (which aren’t bad, just lower than our prior school). But there was no need to worry. Our child has been very happy at Manchester! The academics seem appropriate and the teacher has been wonderful - very responsive and supportive, and really made the school switch a positive experience. There seems to be strong parent/community involvement at the school. At least for our child, so far, things are working out very well here, and we’re satisfied as parents. The only thing I can fault it on is some lack of diversity, characteristic of the area, but it nevertheless feels like a welcoming, friendly environment. Alum: I attended Mechanicsville Elementary School years ago, and I can confidently say that this school is an incredible environment for creating intelligent, successful young people. I had the best time at Mechanicsville and I would be more than happy to have my children attend this school.
