Junior: Mcdonogh School fosters learning in a diverse, collaborative environment. Students from all different walks of life meet together and are able to personalize their schedules with unique classes that meet them where they're at. Academics are rigorous, but manageable, and the sports and school spirit are fantastic. Alum: My exchange year experience in St. Timothy’s school was excellent. I’m from Spain and I spent my sophomore year as a boarder. I had never spent a year away from home and I was terrified at first but after only a month this school felt like a new home to me and I made friends that are like family. The girls were very welcoming and I made friends from all over the world. Right now after two years I still keep in touch with them, I’ve recently come to Maryland to visit my best friend from school. One of the best things about St. Tim’s are the teachers, I could always count on them for an extra explanation which made adapting to the IB program easy. After some time I even switched to harder classes! St. Tim’s allowed me to grow as a person, I went from being very shy to being confident and independent. Alum: I attended Park School for 13 years (Kindergarten-12th Grade) and I couldn’t have wished for a better experience. I received a phenomenal education which prepared me well for college and taught me core values of advocating for myself, thinking outside the box, challenging my mind and more! The teachers want nothing more than for their students to succeed which is made possible by their incredible teaching as well as other recourses Park offers such as tutoring, counseling, and more! I honestly have nothing bad to say about Park School and after 13 years, I believe that speaks for itself. The school mainly has a hands on learning style but teachers frequently ask their students how they thrive (and what learning style works best for them). Personally, I believe it’s the incredible staff and students excited to learn which makes Park so special but we also have a incredible campus. Parent: Our daughter started at Garrison Forest in 5th grade (switched from a Baltimore County Public School) and we wish we moved her sooner! She is currently in 6th grade and has blossomed into a wonderful student, a passionate leader, and a caring community member. Garrison offers the most caring, encouraging, welcoming and, simultaneously, academically rigorous experience. Every person on that campus wants our daughters to succeed. Senior: I mostly enjoyed my experience at Notre Dame Preparatory School. NDP has so many amazing opportunities in academics, clubs, organizations, and service. Freshman: From academics to athletics, Dulaney is well-versed. We have a large variety of both; upwards of 50 different courses and 20 different sports. The classes connect you with students from all four grades, and amazing teachers (that are sometimes very genuine people). Junior: Carver has been a wonderful high school experience. I look forward to going to school every day. Not only do I feel supported in my prime but also in exploring other disciplines. In addition, the AP and GT programs are very strong and have some of the best teachers I've ever encountered. Though it's an arts-focused high school, there is immense emphasis put on education. In my high school experience, I was able to start my own club and take a class that wasn't offered in person. I have encountered issues in my time here specifically with addressing problems. Many people often report issues but have trouble with administrative follow-through. If the administration could crack down and prioritize student conflicts a bit more it could definitely make a big difference. Alum: The teachers are the best part of hereford high. Currently my college has been easier than many of my high school courses. The teachers there had adequately prepared me for college education, and even my professors noticed. The students are the worst part, the people who attend this school are terrible. The teachers put up with terrible behavior and they try their hardest to work with their students, but the students are horrible. I loved my teachers they were my favorite part about going to school, the other students though made school difficult. I am rating it as a 4 simply due to the fact that my education was great, and the teachers and staff made my education a good experience. The type of people who attend this school though, due to the area it is in, could drop the score down to a 2. Alum: THS alum here (nearly a decade out). Although my perspective might be a bit outdated, I hope my reflection post grad might be helpful. THS is what you make of it. Socially, it was great for me personally. I definitely benefitted from being in a co Ed setting and the diverse student body. I went to a top liberal arts school after THS but I was definitely a rarity. Most kids went to Towson or CCBC but AP kids went to UMD, S Carolina, VT, Penn State etc. If you want your kid to go to a more “selective school” from THS, you are more so on your own as opposed to going to a private HS. I had a private SAT tutor and had activities outside of THS. Also I would say my peers who have “good” jobs five years out of college is only a hand full (maybe). Not sure how that correlates to THS or the colleges they went to but throwing that out there. My peers who went to the local privates seem better off from that perspective. Hope that helps!...
