Parent: My children LOVE this school – from the teachers to the students to the challenging curriculum. St. Dom's integrates compassion into their teaching standards, emphasizes the importance of values, and builds leaders through each of their classes and lessons. Though it is a small school, it allows for a lower student-to-teacher ratio, giving children more confidence when asking questions, engage in group activities, and opportunities for one-on-one time with the teachers. Senior: The people at Open Door are incredible, they are always trying to help you with your education and also helping you grow in God. It is a very small school so everyone knows everyone which allows a lot of us to be very close to one another. The people are very genuine. Freshman: The middle school experience is really nice here, every school experience is rough for middle school kids. Here, however, since it is a small community and small school, you make friends that stick with you through it. The teachers are very one on one due to the small number of students. Junior: I really enjoy the community at this school. I love all the exchange students that come to our school every year, the teachers are personable and understanding. It’s also in a beautiful area and the trails behind the school are very nice to walk on. For me, I am very interested in going to college internationally, so I love how involved my school is as far as exchange students. Last year I became close with the most amazing exchange student who was from Kyrgyzstan. Senior: I love going to school at Calvary Christian Academy. I feel it is a very healthy learning environment which promotes strong Christian values, community involvement, teamwork, peer support, responsibility and goal achievement. Parent: Depending on the team your student is placed on, they get slightly different experiences. The standards are the same, but the delivery and style of the teachers is very different. Sometimes the newer teachers will struggle to handle their classes and meet the needs of every child, but with so many teachers retiring these days, I think that's a given in many local districts. If you make sure your child reads every day and does their homework, then they will be challenged in their classes at AMS. The problem can be the students who don't have good role models at home and disrupt the learning of others in class. There are numerous opportunities for enrichment with a CLC program full of after-school activities, lots of school sports, Odyssey of the Mind, a great drama program and free after-school help from teachers who are always willing to stay with students and support them. Senior: Covid started my freshman year so things were definitely very different than those who graduated before covid. Before covid hit, I absolutely my high school experience. The teachers were very nice and helped me when I needed extra support. Once covid hit, online school was extremely easy. Basically all you had to do was put your name on the paper and you passed. When we went back to school my sophomore year, the learning expectations definitely decreased. We were no longer required to do our homework or hand our work in on time. They would give you the answers instead of teaching it to you. Now in my senior year, some things have gone back to normal but the learning expectations are still not high. You do have to do the work but you can turn it in 3 months late and you still get a good grade. I like my high school but I do not feel that they prepared me for college or life after school.... Senior: I've attended all four of my high school years at Lewiston Highschool. Lewiston Highschool is a diverse school with lots of opportunities. Lewiston Highschool has a regional technical center with many different programs to give students the chance to explore other careers. Personally, I have taken the Nursing program and Culinary program. I am a senior and already am a Certified Nursing Assistant thanks to LRTC. It's not just Lewiston Highschool students that can attend LRTC but students all around the area. Lewiston Highschool has so many opportunities that allow their students to flourish.... Senior: This school is what you make of it. For a school of its size, it offers students many valuable opportunities and strives to provide students the resources they need for their future success. This includes outsourcing certain programs to other local schools and colleges. There are quite a few AP classes offered with qualified teachers teaching them. Unfortunately the school sets its bar fairly low. It's a common student conversation to compare their number of missing assignments. Despite the large effort the school tries to make in improving habits of work, it only seems to get worse with time. Even with low standards, many students just barely pass with a 2.5. This culture of poor work ethic pervades the whole student body including high achieving students who finish stacks of missing work by the last day and still get 4s.
