Senior: I am a senior at MCDS, and ever since I came in my sophomore year I've felt like I've found a home. The high school teachers are exceptional; all of my teachers have been creative and super supportive. I feel like all of my teachers really know me (which is a huge perk of MCDS's small size), and whenever I've struggled in a class their doors have always been open. To me, the community is a family because everyone is incredibly nice and caring, and the learning environment that MCDS fosters is extremely collaborative. My experience with the International Baccalaureate program has been engaging--I really love the curriculum's focus on open-ended learning, and I feel like I'm being taught very valuable skills for college and life. The academics can be very rigorous, which I love, and there are almost too many extracurricular options for the small size of our school! Senior: I think the best parts of USM would be the teacher student relationship and the high academic standard that remains in place. The teachers are super welcoming and understanding and help you to be the best potential student that you could be. The academic side is certainly rigorous, but teachers are there to help. If you feel the need to grow yourself more, the opportunity to do so is there. I think the worst parts would be friendships. Parent: When my kids started school something just didn't seem right. At the time, I didn't know what was wrong, I just knew it wasn't right. After several years we looked at Brookfield Academy and learned that the classical liberal arts education and its teaching of grammar, Latin, Western Civilization coupled with BA's focus on freedom, Singapore Math, economics and its five stars that help develop good character in well-rounded individuals, is what was missing. We switched schools and the kids never looked back. Through their years at BA each child discovered passions in academics, Certamen, fencing, chess, art, and theater in addition to more common sports and clubs. In college now, they are well-prepared beyond their peers in academic foundation, resourcefulness, comfort in speaking directly with professors (thanks to the amazing teachers at BA and their desire to know their students), and have a broad range of knowledge that will serve them in any study they choose. Senior: My experience at Brookfield Central has been truly special. There are so many opportunities available to students. Not only academic opportunities, but opportunities for personal growth, forming life long connections, and trying new things. My best experiences at Brookfield Central have been in and out of the classroom. I really enjoyed participating in a vast variety of extracurriculars, such as DECA, Key Club, Tennis, however, I enjoyed attending all the school events as well. Many of the teachers at BCHS are super accommodating and kind. While BCHS is a great school, there is a lot of internal competition because it is a competitive high school with many smart individuals, and can be overwhelming at times. Alum: Brookfield East's academic program is amazing. It definitely set me up for a rigorous college workload--especially the honors and AP classes. The English and History department staff are particularly incredible; I am so grateful for all of the support and resources they provided me with throughout the years. The Science department could use a little work and, often, student understanding of acceptable and unacceptable comments, particularly revolving around race and gender needs some guidance. Senior: Overall, I have had a good experiance at NCA. Everyone is very nice and its a very good positive enviroment. However I must say that this school is heavly focused on academics, which is good unless your into sports like me. One thing that I love about this school is all the diversity. Its really cool to meet people from all over the world. Also I have made really close friends here because the school is so small. I think thats what makes it so special though, you get to be in a close family enviroment. One thing I will say is that I wish the school was a little more family friendly. For me, I live just in town, however it feels like I live very far away from my family. This is due to the fact that NCA is very strict with their rules. Thats one thing I wish would change. They have partnerships with many organizations that help students figure out their post-high school plans. The High School of Health Sciences allowed me to take a CNA class through WCTC. The High School of Health Science staff help support each student and tries to prepare them for college if that is what the students' plan is. Their school has self-paced classes which help students learn key skills. While attending this high school for all four years, I have learned organization, time management, and communication skills. Alum: What I loved the most about Hamilton High School was the diverse and thorough education I got there. The teachers were always ready to help you and made their classes quite creative and engaging. One thing that can be improved is their school bus etiquette; many times students on the bus had no space to sit as we were overpacked. Three students would have to sit on a chair for two and even worse, some would have to sit on the floor all the way home. This was dangerous especially since we had no seatbelts. The food was pretty good for the most part and the weather was almost always cold so invest in a good winter jacket and boots. Sports play a fairly huge role at Hamilton so join one if you can, if you don’t like sports you can join any of the several clubs offered (I did both). I wish I knew that it was cold for the most part over there before I transferred and be prepared for random days of snow throughout autumn. Overall, I had an awesome experience at Hamilton!... Whitefish Bay has been known for some time as a quiet, affluent neighborhood that prides itself in being the home of one of the best public high schools in the state. Whitefish Bay High School does an exceptional job of getting their students to a college ready level in for years. As a result of being in a wealthy neighborhood, the community has been dedicated to ensuring that students at this school have all the resources necessary to be successful. Senior: The best part about Homestead is the teachers. A lot of there stay for many years and have so much experience with teaching that I genuinely feel like I'm learning the content and future life lessons. The worst part is that it is based in a very wealthy area, so some students are a lot to deal with in good terms. It isn't Homestead's fault though. Something I wish would change is what Homestead invests their spending into. They put a lot of money into their football program, which is great because our team is great! Unfortunately, I sing and put effort into theater and Homestead doesn't focus on that at all. We have a lot of talent as a school and I just wish everyone was given the same chance to show it off.... This high school really helps you in any kind of way you need and always has a warm welcoming. I believe Arrowhead truly allows you to be your best self, academically and socially. Senior: My experience at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School has been amazing. I have made lifelong friends, become more confident in myself, and had an outstanding education. However, there have been some turbulences with these successes. As an all girls school, they did a great job preparing me for success and empowering me to achieve everything I desire. I think this is something all girls deserve, and I feel extremely lucky to have experienced this. On the other hand, it is also a Catholic high school, and as someone who is not religious I often felt confused or excluded from certain experiences. Theology classes were mandatory all four years, and I struggled in some of them because I would not understand many of the class discussions or Bible references. I learned how to manage this, but it was not an easy task. Parent: Planned on sending just one child this year but ultimately transferred all of our kids after touring as they all asked to switch! All of our children feel accepted and free to be themselves, and quickly formed wonderful friendships as the community is kind and supportive. Teachers know who each student is as a person and are always willing to engage in conversations about how the kids are faring - a total 180 from our old district. Amazing fine arts curriculum in all grades and the sports programs are fun, low key and enjoyed by most of the students - a plus for us as our children do not enjoy hyper-competitive sports but still like to play. The academics are also much stronger than our old schools and our kids are THE MOST confident in themselves and their abilities as I have ever seen them. Parent: SJNA is truly an amazing place. Our oldest wasn't a great student at the public school, so we moved him midway through freshman year. He just graduated from SJNA, and is now at a university with a $40k scholarship in aeronautics after his aviation experience at St. John's sparked his love of flying. He learned to play the bagpipes, experienced the challenge of Ultimate Raider in Atlanta, and had more leadership training than we'd ever have found elsewhere. His graduation party consisted of fellow seniors, students who graduated a year or two ago, and underclassmen - a testament to the deep bonds formed by the student body which are unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. Teachers and staff came too - they are the heart of this school, and truly love these students and care for them as family.
