They were extremely well-prepared for college and both received merit-based Regent Scholarships (full-ride tuition) for all four years of their university expreriences thanks to the International School of Minnesota. The math program is second to none in the Twin City area, with most students successfully completing all AP math courses offered by the College Board by their junior year and then taking at least one more year of college level math before graduating. Middle school student: I moved to this school in 4th Grade because I have a parent who works at SPA. As soon as I walked in the door, the school scenery and aesthetic was amazing. From the convenient gender-neutral bathrooms to the many flexible classrooms and technology, SPA is a place of moving forward and shaping the minds and hearts of children. The teachers at this school are out of this world and are some of the nicest human beings you will ever meet. They form strong connections with me and my peers that are important in a class. Junior: My experience at the Math and Science Academy has been a journey that has allowed me to learn a lot. The best part of my experience is the teachers, students, and advisors. The teachers take the time to make sure that the students have a good understanding of the material and are always available for help. The community is very diverse and allowed me to meet people who have the same background as me. The clubs offered here allowed me to build a better relationship with my community and gain soft skills that I can use in the future. The worst part of my experience was the amount of coursework we got because I came here during freshman year so I wasn't used to the large amount of coursework. Senior: I started going to Eden Prairie Highschool as a junior. It was overwhelming to move from a school of 300 to 3000, but I was pleasantly surprised by how diverse the school was and how social everyone was. At first, I didn't actually care too much for the school outside of academics and graduating but with the wide array of clubs here, I found a few new interests. I'm apart of the DND club and I love it! Most clubs are completely student-run which makes it feel less like an extra class and more like a hangout to express your interests. Academic-wise, I'm actually stunned at the amount of interesting and unique classes you can be apart of. I mean, there's a whole class dedicated to historical assassinations and nothing else! Although, coming from Canada, the lack of information counselors give you about everything is kind of disappointing. Freshman: I love going to Shattuck, the teachers care about the students and the athletics are amazing! Shattuck is getting me ready for College by working on my timemamgement skills, study habits, and teaching us how to take responsibility of ourselves and our actions. My coaches work very hard to make us better and think about what we want to do and where we want to go after high school. We pend time in the weight room and have practice 4-5 days a week so we are getting so much out of being here learning from these professionals. My soccer schedule is worked into my academic schedule and the teachers, coaches, advisors all work with me to help me create good habits in and out of the classroom. Parent: We have had three kids graduate from Cretin-Derham Hall, and have a current rising sophomore. We have loved everything about CDH! Academically, our children have been challenged and extremely well prepared for college, and it has shown in their successful college performances. The administration and teachers are dedicated and insightful, and have been wonderful resources for the kids. All of our kids have participated in multiple extracurricular activities, which they have enjoyed immensely and which have made them well-rounded students. Senior: My experience with Mounds View High School was very positive. It was a very great learning environment and allowed me to succeed in advanced classes. Mounds View offers many different types of classes for every type of student. Class sizes average around 25 students per class which guarantees one-on-one time with teachers. Mounds View also offers many clubs which range from athletic to academic to social. We are class AAA and our sports compete against some of the top schools in the state. Parent: We have 3 children who attend MA - 2 in the Lower School, 1 in the Middle School. We moved them from a local public school in fall of 2020. Things we appreciate: 1. Ability to cater to both my straight A student AND my child who needs extra supports. 2. Teachers who know my kids. I mean truly take time to KNOW them. Our first conferences left me shedding a tear about how much they care about my kids. 3. Smaller class sizes. We all understand the importance of this. 4. Marshall allows teachers to have flexibility: there were many times where students could choose their assignment based on what fits their particular learning style. Alum: Overall, I would say that my experience at Hopkins High School was pretty good. I unfortunately didn’t really get a full high school experience, as my sophomore year was impacted as a result of Covid.
