Parent: If you are looking for a warm place that will help form a future bright student with a genuine love of learning, look no further. You can sense the warmth between the members of the community that are diverse religiously, economically and ethnically. I can't think of another place in San Antonio that is so rich in its cultural diversity.  Teachers and admin are an absolute dream. I leave my child here each day feeling so great she is in their care. The school makes learning so fun that the kids don't even know they are acquiring so much knowledge. Furthermore, the school also takes the time to work on the character of global citizenship. I hear the kids being polite, taking turns, cleaning up after themselves and playing fairly. Finally, as a working mom, I really appreciate the high-quality after-care they provide. Senior: The most beautiful part about Saint Mary's Hall is its community. I initially thought that it would be too tight knit because it is a smaller private school but as time passed I realized the benefits of the smaller Baron community. Everyone knows everyone. If you need help with something, all teachers, all students, all administration are willing and excited to help you! I absolutely love this place and it has certainly shaped me and made me into a better human. The emphasis on STEM subjects genuinely helps students to prepare for their futures, and with the help of the college counselors, their higher education. In addition, BASIS provides some degree of flexibility in scheduling, allowing each student to customize their own path and achieve their own greatness. However, no school is perfect, and aide from the expected antipathy of the students towards the immense workload, BASIS sports are less than ideal, even in the scope of the Charter League, and so are the arts, moreso fine than liberal. Senior: Keeping it 100 I thought this school was gonna be full of nerds but I met some of the realest people here. Although we may not have many sports we make up for it with our academics, clubs, and school traditions. Compared to conventional high schools we are pretty small but that's why you can meet everyone in your grade at least sometime throughout the 4 years. Our school is so safe your belongings never get stolen. The only thing that needs to change is the culture the underclassmen are brought up in, we should have stricter application requirements to keep our school among Texas' elite. Junior: Two-time Blue Ribbon school, recognized for outstanding academic achievement, Young Women's Leadership Academy is an exceptionally well school, providing students with skills for college readiness. From a student's perspective, attending this school throughout middle school was definitely something to get used to, from all-girls, to fast paced classes, it was safe to say that nobody liked being challenged in these ways. Entering as a class of 100 girls, we now remain at 42 in high school. Each and every one of us are enrolled in a variety of different classes, and I believe that this is extremely important in personal development to discover different pathways for college. Senior: The best parts of my experience within Idea Mays would definitely be the community we built. My class, the class of 2024, is one of the founding classes for the school we have built traditions for younger grades to follow. We helped set up the presidency and due to the size of the classes we grew close-knit. However the worst part of my experience going to the school would have to be the stress level. Having seven AP courses last year of high school is a bit difficult but the teachers are really good at helping you. Something I would love to see change in the school is an increase in clubs and activities it would help decompress the students. Junior: Since I was attending Tejeda Middle School beforehand, Johnson was the next step for my education journey and one I don’t regret being a part of. Not only have I deepened my friendships and made new ones, I’ve also discovered what I truly wanted to do at the school. Johnson’s excellent healthcare diagnostics route for classes have allowed me to understand what I want to do in the future, specialize in the healthcare industry as an optometrist or otherwise. Not only are the career classes great but also the history/social studies ones. AP Human Geography and AP World History, classes I’ve attended, have expanded my love for history; even making me read more books outside of the school! While I think that Johnson is overall a good school, there are some general issues. Parent: We are so happy that we discovered Lutheran High School for our daughter! She is genuinely happy to go to school each day. The academics are excellent. There are several Honors and AP options (History, English, Calculus I & II, Comp Science, Spanish etc) as well as dual credit engineering classes. Importantly, the students are not stressed out and miserable because the teachers and social environment are supportive and nurturing. Bullying and other toxic social issues that are prevalent at other schools are not present here. Athletics are top notch and welcoming to all abilities. Home games and even out of town games are well-attended by students, faculty and parents even if they don't have an athlete on the team. The Robotics, E-Sports, One Act Play etc provide excellent extracurricular opportunities. Alum: Living Rock is a school that you can drop your kid off and not have to worry about that them whether it's their academics or their time with classmates and teachers. Each kid is not only loved unconditionally by all the administration but treated as a child of their own. I can say I know from firsthand experience that any trouble you have in your life as a student within a heartbeat anyone would be willing to help. Doesn't matter if its staying hours after school to get a subject down or just to talk about problems you are having teachers at Living Rock are always there. We moved from CA last summer and our main concern was to find a school for our sons with both high academic standards and Christian values. AA has it all. From day one, everything is designed to prepare you for not only your current college endeavors but future ones as well. However, I would not recommend this school if you want to go to a large school and participate in a large variety of clubs/extracurriculars. Or if you want to explore your academic interests because there is no variety of courses available (ex. computer science, health science, debate/law). Senior: From the day I arrived I've loved Incarnate Word! Everything from the modular schedule to the teachers to the best friends I've made! I really enjoyed the modular schedule at Incarnate Word. It allowed me to get my homework done during the day and taught me important time management skills. That way when I went home I hardly had to do any homework. I just had to study. I'm glad I learned time management skills by going through the schedule because I feel this has prepped me for college! Another thing the teachers there are great! They really want you to succeed and are always there to help you out. The class sizes are only about 15-23 people so the teachers are easy to access outside of class if you have questions or need help on a concept. Regarding the school atmosphere, all the girls here are very nice and we uplift one another.
