Alum: Gull Lake provided many opportunities for students who were willing to commit to their academics as well as the various extracurricular activities that the district offers. I really enjoyed the option and encouragement of taking AP classes and exams which has helped me immensely in starting my college career. I thought that the teaching staff was overall committed to teaching and guiding students towards success in all sorts of postsecondary options. I think that the district already does a good job of teaching study skills, but of the things I would critique would be putting even more emphasis on study skills as well as life skills (financials, taxes, personal wellness, etc.).... Senior: Great athletics. Great academics. School is safe to attend. The counselors are always available and willing to help a student out. We have a therapy dog on campus. Lots of great resources for kids with special needs. The library is stock full. We have school of choice in our school district, and most kids will choose our school over others. Junior: As a junior at PCHS, I feel that our school does well with academics. The school offers a lot of IB classes and a few AP classes, as well as tons of honors and regular classes. This ensures that every student will succeed in the classes they choose to take. The teachers are pretty helpful, even during this pandemic they have tried their best to connect with their students. The school offers a lot of sports and clubs to participate in, as well as things in music and the arts. They should probably put more funding into the arts; however, as they do not put nearly as much funding into music/the arts as they do sports. Senior: Mattawan high school gave me the best experience I could have imagined. Mattawan became a home to me that I didn’t realize until I was graduating. Mattawan was a comfort to me all of the teachers supported me and helped me along the way. The support system at Mattawan is one of the best. While others felt stuck in a small town I felt like I was thriving. I loved Mattawan high school, and I gained the best experiences imaginable. Of course, there were some ups and downs along the way, but Mattawan high schools staff did their absolute best to make this school thrive. I will forever be grateful for the experiences that Mattawan high school offered me. Overall, Mattawan is one of the best schools around, and I can say that without a doubt. Senior: Plainwell High School is a very supportive school. They have clubs and activities for everyone. Classes are a decent size so that students can get the help that they need. There are a lot of special education services but it would be nice if students had a mental health counselor at the school. Students have lots of opportunities to challenge themselves. They can take dual enrollment classes at a local college, take AP classes, and can even take CLEP tests for college credit. This saves students tons of money. Something that can be improved on at the high school is that there should be more advanced placement courses offered. Alum: Although from the outside, the school looks rather bland, it really is the people and experiences that come from the wonderful four years spent there. Even though Kalamazoo Christian is a small school, there are many activities that are available each semester. I engaged in basketball, tennis, theater, band, and the National Honor's Society. The teachers really get to know you and they want you to succeed. I made many memories in that building: Good and bad memories, but I would never change them.
