Senior: I loved my high school years. I lettered for 4 years in soccer and 3 years in track. Since Lourdes is a catholic school, it kept me involved and learning daily about God. We had religion class every day and where able to go to Mass once weekly. My education excelled by going to the private school. The classes were small everyone knew the names of each student and teacher. We had to wear a uniform, but everyone looked well dressed and proper every day. What would I change? Lourdes had a tuition and my parents dreamed of their kids going to Lourdes, so they worked very hard at their jobs so they could pay tuition. My mom even picked up a second job to help pay. I would change the cost of the tuition to be a little lower, so families were not struggling to send there kids to a catholic school and unable to save for college. Thank you, Amelia Gossman... Alum: The music and arts/theater programs at KM high school were well-funded and greatly supported by the community. As well as our sports and academic teams. Most teachers here were the best I've ever worked with and they always treated us with respect. Our science, arts, math, and language programs were above and beyond those of the other schools in the surrounding area. The choir program has been going downhill there for the past few years, but the band program is amazing and growing with every graduating class of kids! Overall, I enjoyed my time at KM. What I love about the school is the small class sizes and the close knit feel between students and the community. The support that the community has for the school in academics and athletics is outstanding, and leads to many students to success in these areas. Senior: For being in a town of under 3,000, Chatfield has been a great high school. There are some really great teachers here, even if not all are great. The teachers really enjoy teaching and it shows. Lots of clubs to get involved in and good coaches for the sports. It is really easy to get involved in many different clubs and sports due to the small size. School workload is perfect. There is a good amount of homework, but not a ridiculous amount. Lunches are not great, but also not terrible. I have not noticed any serious bullying going on. I've always felt safe. Junior: Byron is a nice location and has a very good school district. Its high school has a decent amount of students where students can still get one-on-one help from teachers and staff (except this number is growing so hopefully, they can adapt). The counselors at Byron High School are extremely helpful; they put students first and are very supportive. The teachers are also very good at making sure students are on track and learning in the best way possible. In the past, there have been some not-so-great staff, but the administration is great at making changes to either improve that individual teacher's performance or let them go if they're not working out. It's very easy to tell that every staff member at Byron High School wants success for every student. Junior: Mayo High School is a great atmosphere for all students and staff. I currently am a junior at Mayo and I would not choose to be anywhere else but here! The student body comes together for so many different activities and events, and it really shows how big of a relationship we form with one another. There are so many different clubs you are able to join to find a sense of belonging and the support from staff is AMAZING! Teachers are always willing to sit down and meet with you one on one to figure things out, administration is very helpful is all situations and circumstances, and the guidance counselors go so far above and beyond to help you with mental/emotional help, college planning, scheduling problems, and so much more! I am able to choose classes that I think will push me enough as well as pick classes that are fun and engaging. Senior: My experience with Century was overall pretty good. My academics, relationships with my peers and teachers, and time at century was a positive experience. Century high school has some wonderful teachers who truly mean the best for their students. This year I have especially come to appreciate them and everything they do. My counselor and Century's staff have been very helpful preparing me for college. My counselor is the reason I know of this scholarship! As for the school culture, in the last few years it has gotten stricter academically. Socially, I think it varies for different people. Century is a predominately white school, however there is still a 36.1% minority enrollment. As a Filipino- american, Century being mainly white does not make me feel out of place. Getting involved in Century's variety of clubs and activities I think is crucial to feeling included in the school culture. Senior: At John Marshall, I truly felt like I was seen and noticed by my peers and teachers. I have had a constant support system at all times throughout my now almost 4 years of high school which has helped me tremendously. Senior: I'm a senior at Hayfield High School now, and I've been attending Hayfield since Kindergarten. My favorite part about Hayfield is how close of a community it is, since it's a smaller school. It's such a nice feeling that everyone knows each other, and you can tell the staff really do care about the students. When the Covid-19 pandemic first hit in 2020 last year, many graduation ceremonies were no longer held in person- rather they were held online instead or simply cancelled. Hayfield, however, was one of about 2 or 3 schools total in Minnesota that still made it happen for our seniors- all while following any protocols that were required, of course! To be quite honest, I can't think of much that I would change about Hayfield other than maybe a few facility updates, but we recently just got approved for and have finished construction for the referendum- so plenty of updates have already taken place. Senior: Pine Island High is a rather average school that I have known for three years, as of such. Whilst the rescources of the establishment and quality of the facilities are lacking in nature, I do have high respect for the Pine Island Staff. I have learned from some of the best teachers I have known in Pine Island High, as they pour their efforts into teaching students via methods both approachable and innovative. I do not care for the general behaviour of my peers, but the examples set by my professors inspire me to give every academic trial my best possible effort. Other from the high quality of my staff, the school itself is nothing special. The building has been subjected to multiple remodelings over the years, and the space gives off a slightly cramped feel. I have seen grander schools, but Pine Island will hold a special place in my heart for the simple fact that the adinistration and staff are kind, loving, and supporting toward's the student body.... Parent: Rochester Beacon Academy has been a really good for my 13 year old son. He started there in 6th grade and is now in 8th grade. Middle schools in our town had a student body of anywhere from 850 to 1100 students. For my son, who is on the autism spectrum, but high functioning, the thought of that was so overwhelming. The student body at RBA is smaller, the teachers are extremely involved in each student and they are skilled in dealing with the issues that can affect kiddos with autism. Quiet areas to decompress, able to use noise blocking headphones...things you can't get in the public schools in our town. Thank you RBA!... Read 4 reviews
