Sophomore: I have grown to love visi. There are so many supportive teachers and students. I’ve really developed as a person here academically and socially. I have been pushed to succeed by teachers who genuinely care about my success. I will say that most of the school’s issues stem from the student body. There are lots of cliques which appear to reflect socio-economic groups. Most high school students are hyper partisan left wing. That’s just the way of the world. I feel though, that the school has abandoned catholic teaching in the name of preventing conflict with the student body. I can’t fully criticize the school for this because I don’t think there are many solutions but it is a visible tension. The school could facilitate more respect for diversity of thought. Junior: Winooski has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to education. They were among the first to introduce proficiency-based grading, and they have a course that is specifically designed for students to get credit for learning about their interests. It is also very rare to be surrounded by all types of people in a state that is 97% white. I have been very lucky to experience this diversity and to know what it's like to be the minority. Like any school, Winooski has it's rough spots. Many of the students have grown up in poverty, and face difficulties at home that can bleed into school. However, the teachers at Winooski are unlike most others. Anyone can see how much they care for the students, and due to Winooski's smaller population, they can help students individually and adjust for their needs or interests. Winooski is often overlooked or underrated due to its socio-economic status, but this district can not and should not be ranked solely on that, because it is so much more.... Read 6 reviews
