Senior: I have been in the Los Alamitos district since 1st grade as an out of district student, and I've noticed the district is mostly made of out of district kids. Without us, there would only be a fraction of students currently attending. People come from various counties and drives all to this college prep school and I agree that it is worth it. The schools encourage students to take courses from many many choices to cultivate an education the student could enjoy. The staff and educators are all supportive, kind, helpful, and experienced. The only complaint I have is the slight ignorance in the surrounding community, the best example is from the recent addition of ethnic studies into our curriculum of the high school. There was many protests from parents who assumed the class would be "anti-white" and mirrored the behavior onto some students. Senior: I absolutely loved HBHS! From the friendly environment to the beautiful campus, I found myself loving every second of school! I recommend joining a sport and a few clubs to get the full high school experience and to easily make friends! The teachers were also very supportive and will work with you anytime until you fully understand the material. Take advantage of tutorial and office hours with your teachers. Junior: Garden Grove Unified School District has a very diverse population and for the most part, everyone is accepting of other’s cultures. Because of this diverse environment, a student can always find somewhere to fit in and learn about other cultures as well. Teachers can care a lot or not care at all. The best teachers will have an impact on you for the rest of your life while the worst will leave you suffering for just as long. I’ve had many great teachers and met great staff who truly care for the students’ education and well-being. GGUSD, although has a good foundation, needs to build upon student needs and requests. Problems of harassment and bullying are sometimes brushed over, severely hindering the safe environment of schools. A lot of times, school is a safe place for a student, and when you can not follow all of a student’s needs, there needs to be more effort in creating a better educational environment for students. Senior: I loved Westminster because of all the school events we had. There wasn’t a week without the something happening. Wether it be clubs or classes something was always going on. I’ll admit we weren’t the best at sport but man were the games and practices fun. During the pandemic the school made it easy for us to be able to actually learn. We were constantly given opportunity to better out learning and offered many tutors. I personally am great full because I was very much affect by covid which hurt my academics but my teachers were beyond supportive. The only thing I can say is that sometimes our school had security issues were homeless people would walk in and we thought we were in danger. I would say that happened about once every 3 months.... Senior: Something that I like about my school is how inclusive they are. If you would like to try out for a new sport they will allow you to join and be part of their team even if you haven't played the sport before. They also provide support to the students by always having open-door policies to receive help when you are feeling down. They allow you to test your academic ability by allowing you to take challenging courses like honors, AP, and IB classes.
