Middle school student: I am a student that was at Black Rock Middle School for my seventh grade year and I will be back for my eighth grade. It’s a new school so there are things that will change and are different. One thing that I saw was very cool was how all of the teachers and student council members were trying very hard to build our new community. We had many fund raisers that made tons of money for organizations such as Alex’s Lemonade Stand. My courses and teachers were all very great too, except one. Math. I was in the advanced class called “Integrated I.” It was great except one thing. IXLs. They are a bad way of teaching students key concepts. The point system is degrading and it hurts many students mental health. Another problem that I saw arise was discipline. In the new school, with its open spaces and cool new furniture came issues with students thinking they were entitled to not cleanup after themselves. Senior: One reason I enjoy studying in the Lower Moreland Township School District is the quality of the teaching staff. The teachers in the district are highly qualified and possess a genuine passion for their subjects. They are dedicated to their students' success and are always willing to go above and beyond to provide extra help and support. This creates a positive and engaging learning environment and helps students to achieve their full potential. Another reason I enjoy studying in the district is the variety of academic programs and extracurricular activities available. Junior: The teachers, faculty, and even janitors, from elementary through high school, have been nothing short but supportive towards its student body. I feel as if I were treated with respect - with few exceptions - while attending this school district, from being surveyed about my mental health since attending, to the greetings from other faculty, and even from kind gestures like holding a door. One negative experience I have solely revolves around students, where I feel there is a lack of respect from people whom I can only correlate with those similar to the ones in my old hometown, Philadelphia. Alum: A lot of diverse teachers who have interesting hobbies or travel stories. Some teachers who go out of there way to make sure that their students are getting the best out of their time at the schools. Some go as far as making sure the students are in the right place mentally. Some make it a point to make sure that if their students are struggling with something, whether it be mentally or something in another class, the teacher wants to make sure that the students can come to them and talk to figure out what the next steps are.... Alum: The school district and the community, in general, is very supportive, helpful and welcoming. My past experiences at the district's elementary, middle and high school were very positive and the learning environment was amazing. The teachers were also very good with regards to how they taught the classes and how they went about making sure every student understood the material. The guidance counselors were very helpful in providing the support needed, to students when they felt anxious and stressed. The one thing I would like to see change would the fact that my former middle and high schools were very crowded and the class sizes were quite big as well so maybe building a new school or two would be helpful for future students.... Senior: The school gives a lot of opportunities for students to achieve success, but fails to give the proper attention to things such as the music department. Giving more attention, and more importantly, funding, to athletics like football and basketball leaving the music department to fend for ourselves much of the time. Aside from that, the school gives great care to things like AP classes which is helpful for students who may not have had the opportunity to take the classes/exams without the school offering them as well as paying for the students AP exams. Senior: As a senior at Delran High School, I have found Delran to have a very good school district, education-wise. There is not a lot of diversity within higher-level courses, and I'd love to see minorities being encouraged to push themselves and take a class that may seem difficult for them. Senior: Personally, I loved the atmosphere the West Deptford School system had in place. I always felt like I was welcomed walking through the halls. The students here are kind and very hard-working. Not only are the students hard-working, but the teachers are also hard-working. If a student ever has a problem in a class, the teachers are always their to help. Even with remote learning, the teachers are more than happy to stay after school and help students with whatever they are struggling with in class. The teachers are very understanding with our situation due to the pandemic and try to involve us in every class. One thing that I would change about this school is having more options for classes. Junior: Interboro High School is incredible as far as public schools go, which is why I gave it a 5 star rating. All the problems I have with it are way worse in any other public school. The teachers are great and care deeply about the welfare of the students, and the courses offered are sufficiently challenging. The guidance team is very smart, aiding in college affairs for students very effectively. The athletics are amazing, with good coaches and good teams. The student body is the only real problem- but this goes for any high school full of young teenagers with not much life experience. Overall, very good for aiding in career preparedness.... Senior: Upper Darby High School offers a diverse and enriching experience for students. Students have access to a plethora of AP classes, academic clubs, and service opportunities. The student body is incredibly diverse, as it is composed of many cultures. This exposes teenagers to new perspectives, expanding their worldview. It prepares them for interactions after the secure bubble of high school. Clubs are tight-knit and range from educating students about surgery to business affairs. I'm involved in service clubs, the Red Cross, and the Environmental Club. I took 10 AP classes during my time at UDHS, which aided my academic skills immensely. Despite the pros, Upper Darby High School is underfunded and disorganized in many affairs. Students are required to meet a bare minimum for graduation requirements which might result in being underprepared following high school.
