Senior: One of the strongest components of Shaler Area is its wide diversity of classes and opportunities. Shaler Area offers a tantamount of differing Advanced Placement courses in preparation for college. They also have many elective classes that would be considered "rare" at other schools. Such being, Jewelry, many language courses, etc. One thing I would like to see improve is the actual communication of the school. On multiple occasions, their information makes little to no sense. Junior: I have been at School Lane Charter School since I was in 2nd grade and I am not a junior in high school. I commend School Lane for always seeking ways to better the experience of students. You can see that each year is a year to reflect on the past which I like. The high school IB Campus is very small so this gives teachers the ability to get to know their students and understand what the best environment will be to help them succeed academically. The academic portion is very rigorous and this is taught school wide. REFLECTING is a big thing at school lane which is great because how are you gonna grow without reflection? I wish that the voices of students were heard more though. I wish that more opportunities were given to students to grow socially. I feel that many students feel that their voices aren't heard. I also wish that there were more extra-curriculars to build the school spirit. Also, it always seems like teachers are leaving.... Read 27 reviews

Alum: Penn Hills provided an immersive experience and various networking opportunities, assuming you turned them into networking experiences. When paired with NMSI, Penn Hills rivaled top-performing schools across the Greater Pittsburgh Area and has an educational quality equivalent or comparable to Taylor Alderdice Highschool. The Gifted Program and STEM courses are phenomenal, with AP courses being stressed to students. I am currently a Duquesne University, and I can honestly say that Penn Hills Highschool AP is significantly more difficult than this established 4-year university.
