Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District
#2 Best School Districts in Wisconsin
- School District
- Middleton, WI
- Rating 4.25 out of 5 59 reviews
Alum: The vast majority of my teachers in the MCPASD were very passionate about teaching and engaged in their students lives beyond academics (i.e. by coaching extracurriculars, writing letters of recommendation, reviewing college applications, attending games and performances). Aside from the core curriculum, students were allowed to choose several elective classes each semester in both middle school and high school, covering a wide range of subjects, and could choose more advanced AP courses if they preferred a challenge.
Unfortunately, the school district as a whole lacks in diversity - the vast majority of students are caucasian, and during my time there, there was clearly not a great amount of interaction between students of different racial/ethnic backgrounds.
In my experience, MCPASD promotes learning, social justice, and compassion for others, provides a wide array of enriching extracurriculars, and does it's best to make the many opportunities there accessible to everyone.

Waunakee Community School District
#5 Best School Districts in Wisconsin
- School District
- Waunakee, WI
- Rating 4.5 out of 5 40 reviews
Parent: My son is in his fifth year of school in Waunakee and we are so happy with where is at academically. I have always felt like the expectations are much higher here and I worry when I talk to parents on teenagers in the district because of the amount of stress these teenagers are under with their studies. However, there is something to be said for academic preparedness. I have heard from current college students that say high school was stressful but they were more prepared for college than many of their peers. The standards for education are outstanding here and I love all of the educational opportunities that are offered here. I would 100% recommend this community to anyone that is looking to relocate to this area. The teachers are amazing, the food service is top notch, and these schools are incredible. I have read comments in other reviews about the lack of diversity, that is changing a lot in the younger grades right now, and was certainly never the fault of the district.

Madison Metropolitan School District
#123 Best School Districts in Wisconsin
- School District
- Madison, WI
- Rating 3.74 out of 5 200 reviews
Senior: I've been in the Madison Metropolitan School District since kindergarten and I have blossomed into a well rounded and devoted student. I definitely think that my school district has areas for improvement but overall I haven't had a bad experience. When I was in fourth grade my mother decided to put me in private school for the year. This was definitely different from MMSD. Now that I am older I better understand the differences between the schools and what they meant. For instance, the private school I went to had far more resources than my public elementary school yet was far less diverse. Race was something I didn't worry about too much as a child but it was something I noticed. While I never had any racists experiences at that school MMSD was a much safer place for an African-American student and I'm glad my mother decided to move me back for my fifth-grade year. MMSD was a good school district I just hope they can diversify their teaching staff and receive more government funding.
