Senior: Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, also know as CMS is a very large school district in North Carolina, that includes the city of Charlotte and the entire Mecklenburg County. Within this school district is the city of Charlotte and the surrounding towns/suburbs. Because the district is so big, there are problems with meeting the needs of all students in all situations.
Many of the neighborhood elementary schools have been able to create a close community of students, teachers and parents. Middle and High schools tend to be on the larger size.
CMS offers several Magnet Programs that allow students to enroll in a school that is not their "home school". Many of these programs encourage students to explore different styles and focus of learning. Magnet options include: Montessori, Performing Arts, Engineering, Language Immersion, STEM, and advanced placement.

Senior: Growing up I will always think of what I wanted to be. I would always ask my mom and dad questions about their career choices. My parents told me the key to choosing a career was to think about what I loved to do. I started thinking about my interests and passions. When I enrolled at Highland Tech, I didn't know what to expect. I chose the Computer Engineering Pathway and never looked back. During my freshman year, I successfully received my Microsoft Certification. These classes have helped me gain knowledge to fulfill a career in the technological field. My teachers gave me the guidance and encouragement to pursue may passion and dreams.
When I graduate high school, I will continue my education at North Carolina A &T University. I will pursue a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. A new chapter that will prepare me for new challenges and opportunities to grow as an individual. I will always remember the guidance of my family, friends, teachers, and community.
