Parent: Love them! 3 kids in elementary right now and I work in several schools providing counseling support. Great staff and teachers, and programs. For West Virginia, the schools are somewhat diverse due to wvu and large corporations in town that brings in more diversity than most other school districts in the state. My two boys are in the talented and gifted program (TAG), and they do a great job with enhancing their academics. I love all of the family activities the school puts on throughout the year. Senior: Ohio County Schools is a great school district. I have had a wonderful experience from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Wheeling Park High School has allowed me to take college level courses with excellent teachers. This has been an amazing preparation for when I attend college next year. As an athlete, Ohio County Schools and Wheeling Park High School has made sure student-athletes are recognized for their skills on and off the field. All students in Ohio County Schools are all of the tools and resources needed to be a successful student. I plan to attend a university and play basketball when I graduate. Junior: I like Putnam County Schools; they have wonderful opportunities such as clubs and athletics. The only thing that I would change at these schools are some classes. The school system is very low staffed especially after COVID and now there are no good classes left, new classes should be added so students can have more opportunities. Another thing that should change is the amount of outdoor time we have. High School students never get to go outside and if we do it's to leave the school. Alum: Teachers are very nice, approachable, helpful, and hands on. They want to see each and every student succeed! Every subject is explained in detail and further into detail if needed. The classes are paced based on the majority of the students, so if the majority of students do not understand something, more time will be spent on what is not understood. This school is very inclusive of everyone and certainly fair! Everyone knows everyone in this school making it easy for students and teachers alike to communicate with each other. A good bit of teachers go out of their way to help students succeed; for example, they will stay after school and help students who need help in an area. I recommend going to this school district!... Junior: As a student who has attended Wood County Schools since kindergarten, I have seen the inner workings of the system, and while many areas are student friendly, rigorous, and full of opportunities, some aspects leave much to be desired. The quality of classes is full of college-minded staff and students alike, yet several—especially in the younger grades—are more focused on fun-filled activities than really teaching kids. Extracurriculars are abundant and inclusive in the county and are highly praised throughout. Resources provided by both teachers and administrators are extensive and readily available to all students. Despite all this, issues with administration have arisen in high schools especially. Administrators have begun lacking adequate communication skills with staff and students and typically do not support their teachers. Middle School Student: Tyler County Schools are great at teaching, but aren't so great at dealing with issues among students, which can cause learning problems. This school also seems overly invested in including everyone into everything, even though this can distract other students from learning. Some teachers (very few) seem to be more invested in embarassing students or treating students with no respect than actually teaching. Senior: Overall, my experience with Berkeley County Schools has been very good. I like how many opportunities there are with the county. For instance, there is a variety of clubs and activities you can participate in. Throughout my high school career, administration has offered and talked about the ways you can make the most out of high school by getting involved. The staff at my school pushes us to do our best every day. However, I would like to see some change in my school. There are courses at my school for many different areas of interest. Although, there aren't many classes we can take that will apply to our lives in the future. For example, we could have classes that could prepare us better for college, SAT testing, etc. Also, because teachers aren't getting payed much, they have decided to teach elsewhere. Junior: Greenbrier County Schools is a very good school system that I am. I am currently at Greenbrier East High School and the learning we get is helpful to us in a good way. The school system is very supportive with the community involvement with sports activities and academics, The whole community pitches in for many activities at the school with the past alumni helping to getting the name out there. Our sports programs in this area are pretty good for a overall "small town". The bullying issue and harassment is low from what I can see at school myself. Moving here at the beginning of my freshman year the teachers were very welcoming and helpful to me with becoming acclimated to the area. Junior: My experience at Jackson County Schools has been quite excellent. The new Kenna Elementary school building is state of the art in safety. I would like to see the safety techniques and technology applied to the other schools throughout the county. Ripley High School's facilities are very well kept. The football field is the best in the county, and is certainly one of the best in the surrounding areas. Nearly all of my teachers throughout my years have been helpful, fun and nice in the classroom. Teachers I have had have inspired me to become an educator myself. Ripley Middle School though, is not as well kept. The gym and cafeteria are both very nice. However, the locker-rooms are not nice, and the football field is place in a flood-zone. Every time there is heavy rainfall, the field floods and remains loose and wet for weeks. In all a new Ripley Middle School would make Jackson County Schools 5 stars.... Read 7 reviews

Alum: Mineral county schools provide excellent education that allow students to excel with their test scores. The teachers are very helpful and care about their students future. Freshman: I've just gotten into 9th grade, but had got into a program where I would do my studies at a Mercer County Technical School. Specifically, the Health/Science s and helping Academy. It has been very good so far, the course is teaching me thing me learn a lot! I've been improving with the many opportunities we have at the school like: Hosa, Internships, and many more! The kids are all great and the teachers help you out no matter the situation! They really believe in "all kids will graduate". Junior: I have had an exceptional experience during the duration of my attendance at Pendleton County schools in Franklin, West Virginia. Considering the very small and compact area that the educational facility is located in, I conclude that the school is very well staffed. I have always felt that the educators deeply cared for my schooling needs, as well as my emotional state or standing. Due to Covid-19 striking the nation with a whirlwind of chaos, I have been participating in online virtual schooling through Pendleton County High School. I feel that the county handled the uproar of illness quite competently. All over the world, individuals and organizations have been suddenly forced to adjust and adapt to the arduous task of placing the well-being and health of others before simple wants. Senior: My experience through the Raleigh Co school system has been incredible. They have been proactive on accommodating my disability, bilateral hearing impairment. The school system recognized early in my childhood, (pre-K) that I needed speech therapy and quieter environments in order to academically excel. The educators initiated my IEP and continue to follow me through my senior year with my 504. The staff’s dedication has enabled me to achieve my academic goals, thus far. They have always worked with me and pushed me to do my best academically. I was a “gifted” student through out middle school and now proud to say that I’m a member of the National Honor Society. My overall GPA is >4.0. The BOE has provided accessibility to dual credit classes, honors classes and also college classes. Alum: I think Nicholas County High School along with all high schools should require everyone to take a class upon graduation that deals with problems that we will have to face in the real world. Senior: Wirt County is a place I will forever be proud to call my home. Everytime there is a sporting event or extra-curricular activity going on, you can almost guarantee the entire community will be there supporting whatever it is. Everyone at Wirt County knows one another and really is like a family. Sure there is drama, but we all love one another and would do anything for each other. When it comes to the academics, most of the teachers are here because they want to be. They crave seeing each individual student grow and succeed. One of the advantages of having such a small school is being able to give each student the individual time they need. Unfortunately, not many appreciate our small school. It seems like everyone at some point or another is complaining about how they want to get out of here. The only thing I would like to change about my school is the attitudes.
