Senior: In the Murray Independent School District, there are no cliques. Sure, there are friend groups, but everyone seems to get along with one another. I have seen my fair share of drama throughout the years being that I'm a senior, but I know that the comradery there is something unique. However, I feel like the school system fails to recognize the mental health of its students. During this pandemic, I have been expected to perform the same in school as though nothing has happened. Working from home is tough, especially when that's not how I learn. I have been expected to know how to do everything on my own; I have had to teach myself AP statistics. Junior: I have been at Beechwood High School since kindergarten. Throughout the course of these 13 years at Beechwood I have seen many things change. All of the changes have been very good to the community and the school as a whole. Some things I would like to see change are the food, I know that isn't a high priority but the food at our school is not very good and it makes some people not feel good. Another thing I would like to see change is the parent involvement, involving parents more into the school atmosphere would give Beechwood the kick that it needs. Overall I believe that Beechwood is a good school and should be taken more seriously and the effort it puts in needs to be given back as well. Senior: The education system here is very excellent, they offer a much higher quality education than the other schools in the area. Here they provide specialized classes that help prepare for anything you may want to pursue after high school. The only thing I would change would be the extracurricular focus here. Alum: For the most part I really enjoyed the school, but their are several things I would change. For one, some of the teacher's I have had in the past would give us packets of papers and then go back to there desks and sit on there phone. Another thing I would change, would be the bullying. Senior: McCracken county offers a wide range and variety of classes, allowing for both Ap and honors courses. Additionally, McCracken provides more options than rivaling schools; however, I would like to see more school functions outside of football games and dances (clubs haven’t gone on trips in years, neither have honor societies). Senior: I transferred my sophomore year to Harlan Independent. Although the course work is more advanced, the school was a saving grace to me. The small environment and personal attention from teachers helped me excel. They hold you to a higher standard of learning, including grading on a stricter scale. It helped me push myself to achieve what I honestly didn’t think I could. They are there to help if it is needed and offer so many outlets to aide you any way possible. Middle School Student: I have attended this school district my whole life and it is an amazing district and furthermore an amazing community. At Russell Independent Schools there are wonderful teachers,administrators,and overall staff that many students have come to form bonds with. The district offers wonderful programs like band,orchestra,foreign languages,architecture classes,and much more. Alum: I think the best thing about my time at Hazard was the sense of community that was fostered by both the faculty and student body. The school was very welcoming to others and did its best to make sure everyone felt included and valued. The worst part about my time at Hazard was just the limited opportunities I and my fellow classmates had during the Covid-19 pandemic. Alum: My overall experience attending Fayette Counties Public schools was extremely positive. Ive grown up with the same people in my classes, being able to create life long friends. As wells as getting to know a few of my high school teachers and keeping in touch with them even after graduation. Although, the social aspect of public school was my favorite part, I did not particular enjoy the academic side. I've known since I was young that I learn things differently than most and because of this school was rather difficult. Fortunately, I was able to learn what methods worked for me best and put them into use when I was having difficulties in school. These Public schools also take the time and energy into learning about different cultures and exposing us to diversity. All throughout school we would put on festivals, plays, and even dances in order to spread different cultures and what they mean to others. Senior: I moved to Corbin in 6th grade. This school has so much to offer. They strive for everyone in the class to get the same attention and for all students to improve in every aspect. In middle school, I was able to take a ballroom class, be apart of a photography skills team and even have a job working with kids after school. Overall, I’ve had a great experience at Corbin schools but if I could change anything it would be for Covid to never have happened. I feel like my highschool experience has got cut short as I haven’t even went a full year. I am graduating a year early because I’ve gotten that opportunity from Corbin. My freshman year we got out in March and all of sophomore year was online. There’s nothing I would want to change about the school other than wishing I could have been in person there. Senior: Jackson Independent School is a wonderful school with a family like atmosphere. You pretty much get a one on one experience with each teacher unlike other schools, due to small class sizes. Although class sizes are small, the school has grades Pre-K through 12th grade. Everyone knows each other even if they aren’t in the same grade. The only thing I would change about this school is adding more classes to be able to take. Some classes have to be taken through the college so students can earn the credits to graduate. Senior: This school is filled with many great opportunities. The people are amazing and sincerely care about getting an education. The area technology center is also a great experience and very hands on with the different programs they offer. I am in Health Science because I might decide to do nursing. You get to learn the different skills and Curriculum for a nursing assistant. All the staff are very determined and will help out with anything and everything weather that may be outside of school on in school. I would want them to offer a little bit more of club offerings....
