Senior: I believe that Carmel Clay Schools does a great job of providing many opportunities for students for their future. There are so many specialized classes that provide specific learning experiences that cater towards student's wants and needs. It gives a good jumpstart to college and career life, and offers great education with amazing teachers. Junior: Going forward as being a highschooler for 3 years, I have been through experiences that made me aware of myself and have tough skin. Highschool is a challenge and I adore how this school has pressured me (generously) into trying new things, giving me opportunities to do better, and go forward into my future career as a business student. Moving into a new school, where you know nobody, is a real challenge and sometimes you'll have to face sitting alone, being judged, and thrown Cheez-It crackers at. Students who I am friends with now, understood my problems are are aware that these occurrences can happen from time to time in the school. Allowing to fully open myself and realize that shouldn't be getting fooled by these students who think higher of themselves and are insecure about the way they feel around other kids. Senior: I absolutely love Westfield Washington Schools! I have lived in Westfield all of my life and have always gone to Westfield schools and have always loved them. One thing that they struggle with is pleasing everyone. Westfield as a town is very split politically and it can sometimes be hard for the schools to make decisions on things without it seeming like they swing on either side of politics. Parent: As a larger school district, there are a lot of opportunities for kids to learn and grow. With the area having been fast growing, many of the schools are newer. With a proactive focus on things like mental health and safety, the district seems interested in truly putting kids first. Is the district perfect, absolutely not; however, what district is? There is a bit too much pressure to push kids to overachieve and not always enough focus on those kids that fall in the middle. Overall, however, if a child has interest, then there is a plethora of ways to engage. While sports get the over-focus that most districts give them, the HSE district also puts a lot of focus into academic competitions and extra curriculars as well. Areas the district could improve include are parental involvement - many parents work, diversity, and administration. With the administration, the district has been getting top-heavy. Senior: I personally entered my freshman year at Munster High School coming from a completely different middle school than the one next door to my high school. Coming in and adjusting to a much higher curriculum than I was used to was very hard to overcome during my freshman year. The classes are set to a very high level and meant to challenge you which certainly did for me. The staff is something I definitely can be worked on specific staff members would not be corrected for questionable behavior and lots of the time swept under the rug. Something I do love about Munster is the opportunities it has given me I have had endless opportunities that I will forever be thankful for receiving. Freshman: I love how avon provides a wide range of activities, clubs, sports and ect. Avon also provides a wide variety of classes you can take so that almost anyone can find something they like to do. Along the line of classes Avon provides a gracious amount of AP classes that you can take to get you ahead in college. Avon is always adding more clubs and summer activities to get their students prepared for the upcoming school year. There is conditioning over the summer for their student athletes to get them prepared for their upcoming fall season. Avon has an amazing visual/performing arts program. You can take Orchestra, Choir, Band, Theatre, Dancing, and so much more! Parent: I've had a great experience my three years of attending Lake Central High school and can not wait for what my senior year will bring. I have met some incredible people and some amazing friends. Teachers are great, they have thought me so much and have always helped me to achieve the knowledge I need for the future. Here they are so many opportunities to excel, from having so many options for sports, clubs and even community service. Not to forget the class options they offer to maybe guide you to a career path you might want to take in life. I have been smart enough to take advantage of many of these opportunities and will never regret it. I feel lucky to attend such a great school not only because of the academic opportunities but I also have to mention how nice of a school it is and how big it is. Alum: I went to a MCCSC school about two years ago. I LOVED this school – from the teachers to the students to the challenging curriculum. Monroe County Schools integrate compassion into their teaching standards, emphasizes the importance of values, and builds leaders through each of their classes and lessons. Though it is a small area, it allows for a lower student to teacher ratio, giving children more confidence when asking questions, engage in group activities, and opportunities for one-on-one time with the teachers. Teachers are passionate about seeing their students succeed. They are so great about sharing moments of pride they see within your child – their good behaviors and achievements; and they know the importance of getting the parents involved should an issue arise, and do it in a very respectful, approachable manner. Senior: I like that Center Grove High School has an early college program and I will graduate with 30+ college credit hours. They also have the Project Lead the Way BioMed 4-year sequence which, while challenging, has been enjoyable and solidified my desire to go into the medical field. Overall, CG is a good school--but I do wish there was more of a "student growth and progress towards acquiring skills" approach to what success looks like. Parent: Valparaiso Community Schools are top in Northwest Indiana for education. From the elementary schools up to the high school, these schools offer so much for the students that attend. Their academics programs are wonderful and really help the students excel in all their learning. The teachers work very hard to accommodate all students, whether online or in person. The VCS also offer a huge variety of clubs and activities. Any student, if they want, can find something to participate and thrive in. The sports programs in Valparaiso Schools are amazing and offer youth many avenues to improve and show case their talents. The schools are very safe and the administration provides great communication with the parents and families to make sure all are informed of protocols. VCS also has wonderful Art and Music programs. Junior: Awesome to be here! Moved here from FWCS, and overall this place has been better in terms of education and the schools themselves. It's in a nicer area, buildings aren't broken, and the staff are awesome! I have enjoyed working with my peers and teachers, and have been quite a bit more challenged. The highschool has a lot of classes, AP and Dual credit options, and ways to intern or work with teachers. I'm unaware as to what exactly I am wanted to say? I'll just answer the questions..... Parent: Aspects of the high school that are terrific - but other areas need to improve. Our kids have had a number of talented & committed teachers. They have also had a few that we wish they had not - those that are ready to retire, or not invested in the kids & making learning active and fun. The high school offers challenging courses, and some AP options. The music program is amazing! Kids are afforded the opportunity to begin orchestra and band at an early age, and their skills are crafted throughout their academic careers. The music teachers are very qualified and passionate about their work. We have been disappointed in is the school spirit or culture. Attendance at sporting events is weak, and kids don't get excited about or attend dances. "Special days" that are designed to be fun and show school spirit are lacking. Junior: I’ve been in Franklin Township since kindergarten. The vast majority of teachers and staff are very kind and helpful. In high school, the main thing that stood out to me was the range of different classes offered. It works very well for students less interested in traditional academic subjects. There are plenty of clubs and groups to get involved with. The few issues I have with Franklin Township comes from some not so good, in my opinion, IT people.
