Junior: Cheyenne Mountain High School has amazing academics and extracurricular activity participation, but falls short in the care for student mental health and qualifications of teachers. Students constantly succeeded in and after Cheyenne Mountain with a 97% graduation rate and AP class participation that heavily outweighs that of average classes. Almost every student who Cheyenne produces participates in some sort of extracurricular whether it be sports, clubs, or student government. Along with academic excellence, the sports domination is easily reflected by over 100 state championships in the schools history. Although these statistics easily prove the school wide excellence, the pressure this puts onto many students is not well handled. Many students struggle greatly with mental health, heavily related to school pressures, and cannot rely on any school resources. Niche User: I attended Telluride School District from preschool to 4th grade. I unfortunately moved to Montrose in 5th grade and was nothing compared to Telluride. When I moved to Montrose school district in 5th grade, I had noticed that all of my fellow classmates were learning everything I learned in 4th grade. Telluride excels in education and is far more advanced than Montrose. Not only does Telluride excel in academics, but it offers much academic, extra curricular opportunities for students to do. So much that since it's known as a popular ski resort, the entire school excersises the idea of being active that come winter time, they take a day out of the week to go skiing, snowboarding, iceskating..etc And they offer financial assitance for programs like that, or even programs like theater, sports, and alot more. Freshman: I go to Peak to Peak Charter School in BVSD. Overall it's very prestigious and college-oriented. BVSD itself has its issues, but it's a pretty normal school district. Peak to Peak, as a school on its own, is quite lenient with off days. Professional development days are quite common. They also have a week dedicated to interactive learning known as Peak Week, which is quite fun. They also put quite the emphasis on college preparedness, with a large CCC (College Counseling Center) where Juniors and Seniors participate in CRS (College Research Seminar). It also has one of the lowest drug use rates among students. However, it does seem to have trouble with financial decisions. They spent quite a bit of money on a fleet of electric buses, while students requested several other things, among pesticide for the outdoor dining area, and others. Alum: I could not have asked for a better high school experience. The faculty, staff, and administrators form a cohesive team conducive to an excellent learning environment. The curriculum is demanding but there is a lot of room for intellectual and personal exploration. The support I received from everyone is incredible. I feel extremely well prepared for Harvard. The ex-Ed program will forever be my favorite experiences because of how much I learned about nature and about myself in addition to the deep, meaningful friendships I was able to make. Senior: If you are self-motivated and self-sufficient, this is the school district for you. Other people will not care about or try to help you - teachers, faculty, or other students. You are on your own to figure everything out, no one will attempt to help you unless it is their job (and even then it will be short and to the point, with no follow-ups). But the classes and clubs offered are diverse and some are very interesting, as long as you get a teacher that is involved in their classroom (which does take some research about the teacher themself - again, most do not care). And! If you do do well in school, you can easily stand out. Most people have around B's and C's, with an A thrown in here and there. Sophomore: I had just moved to Colorado this past year and being the new kid in a new state was intimidating but as soon as I had spent a couple days at LP, I immediately felt integrated and involved in the community. The staff is so genuine, especially within their welcoming and were very helpful resources when fixing all the technical things regarding transferring schools. Although the teachers do a wonderful job introducing you to the school, the students are truly the ones who have made a significant impact on me. I have never met such a more welcoming group of students that are genuinely happy to be in a place of education. On the first day, I was greeted by numerous teens asking if I needed somewhere to sit for lunch. Without hesitance people greet you in the hallways through passing period and flash a smile throughout class. Senior: Overall, my time at PSD is well spent. I personally go to Poudre, and most teachers I have here didn't treat it as their job, but more as their passion. I'm very interested in science and art fields and the programs are in line with that, teaching me how to code, the ins and outs of audio production, etc. and getting me ready for my first year at college. I felt almost ahead of other people I met at college. When I graduated, I knew that I was ready for the next step in my education. The AP program is great! The teachers within know what they are talking about and will help you every step of the way. Their clubs scene is good, could be stronger! There is a willingness to improve it and lots of opportunities to take initiative in that space. There is strong school spirit at Poudre High School. Senior: I've been attending school at Ridgway since Kindergarten and I absolutely love it. Being a small school a strong, tight-knit (but welcoming) community. I never feel pressured to dress or act a certain way and that's because the kids here encourage you to come as you are. What we lack in diversity, we make up for with a general acceptance of people from all walks of life. I can only hope that our school -- and community -- will diversify a bit more in the coming years. If you need help, there will always be a teacher who is willing to meet up with you on their own time. Forming personal bonds with those around you provides you with an education in more than just the classes you take. I have loved my time here at RES, RMS, and RHS and I'm sad to be leaving the district this year. Senior: Summit School District gives students many different opportunities to their students. Students are able to talk to their councilors about future careers and will help students by providing them with the necessary books and information they need.Classes such as Personal Finance helps Juniors and Seniors get prepared for their future by learning about money management and how to apply for scholarships, FAFSA, etc.There are also technician and culinary classes which gives students hands on tasks that can help provide them for future careers Summit School Districts’ food consists of pizza and unhealthy foods the majority of the time not prioritizing healthy lifestyles .Studies say schools should start around 10:00 because that is when the brain can retain more information,this would be very beneficial to all. Senior: I believe that Salida Schools have incredible teachers and staff. I do think that scheduling, and the day to day layout of school concerning time management and lengths of classes could be changed for a more productive day for both students and teachers. I also think that advisory should be made optional for students and each teacher should be given a part of the senior capstone project that they will help the students with, and the students should rotate from teacher to teacher every two weeks.... Senior: St Vrain Valley is a great school district! It’s schools offer a plethora of advanced courses for students, like myself, to take. All the students are able to earn credits for their future degrees while still in highschool via AP tests. The teachers are all knowledgeable and smart, however the world language classes have been a struggle for students. Although the schools offer a seal of biliteracy many students who took French classes were robbed of this chance due to the constant changing of French teachers and whether or not the school actually offered a French class for that particular year. There are many clubs and activities for students to do, all of them are inviting and inclusive. Parent: Platte Valley has been such a blessing for my children and our whole family. My child is a high functioning autistic and the support and programs that are available to him have been very helpful. All the teachers and faculty work hard at keeping parents in the loop. The administration listen to the parents and also take into account what is working for other districts too. Senior: I will be graduating from Windsor Charter Academy this Thursday. Overall, it was a great experience, I had amazing friends and some of the best teachers. However, we didn't have very many options for sports seeing as the school is mainly focused on academics; however, it would be great to see more students participating in sports such as dance, track, basketball, ext. The school is a very small school so you get one on one time with teachers and get very close to admin which is great! We had a very great theater program as well as a math program! There are many options for after school clubs regarding academics and the social aspect of high school; however, I would've loved to be able to attend more sports events for more than just one team....
