Senior: I have been enrolled in Chesterfield County Public Schools my whole life. My parents were looking for the perfect place to raise their children and because of this, we ended up in Chesterfield, Virginia with the assurance of a great academic career! I went to Clover Hill and Winterpock Elementary School, both schools emphasized kids to be enthusiastic learners and good citizens. Swift Creek Middle and Cosby High School maintain the importance of learning by having amazing faculties! However, schools cannot accommodate every person; but it is clear that one of the top priorities in this district is to provide the best emotional support. This district does a great job of making their students feel safe during any school event. They have made clear to the students and guardians that they are in a welcoming community that emphasizes academic and emotional support! Sophomore: I feel that Richmond Public schools get a really bad representation due to long-lasting stereotypes and news stories but is absolutely great because of how the students get to interact with what they are learning about. As a person who has experienced the learning technique of the teachers who work in RPS schools, I feel that they might get frustrated with how the students react to what they should be learning. Compared to other school districts, we have more benefits yet, while lacking some. Some school buildings aren't up to high standard such as some Henrico schools. I do love the fact that Richmond Public Schools gives out free Breakfast and Lunches , which is ver much needed for certain students during the pandemic. Senior: When I was younger, school was a source of confidence. I felt like I was good at it and could end the day feeling accomplished. As I got older, that changed. School became frustrating. It began to make me feel badly about myself. This was so discouraging and degrading. I started not wanting to go to school, not wanting to even try. My sophomore year I knew things had to change if I wanted to have a good future and go to a good college. We found Cortona Academy and, honestly, my life changed! Cortona Academy made me feel good about learning again and helped build-up my confidence. They made school less frustrating, making sure I understood something before moving on, making certain I had a strong foundation and could successfully tackle any subject put in my path. Parent: As the parent of two children in the lower school, I am extremely pleased with SSSAS. The Early Saints teachers make each day engaging for my 3-year-old. The monthly units the ES learn have prompted my son to apply what he’s learned to the world around him (the food unit they completed prompts a nightly discussion about which foods on his plate are muscle foods, brain foods, etc.). His teachers started a recent parent conference with 3 very specific adjectives to describe my son and given the examples they gave me, it is clear that really understand him as a whole child. My experiences with JK and K were also nothing short of fantastic; even during the pandemic the teachers were able to connect with my son. The K and 1st grade teachers have also provided my son a solid educational foundation; they have identified his strengths and given additional challenging work so that he hasn’t been bored.
