Senior: I have lived in Solon my entire life, since kindergarten I've attended Solon Schools. Most of the time Solon is great, their teachers are attentive and caring, we have every resource we need, and even the school lunch is good. But there is always that one outlier. As I got older I have had to encounter many racist and bigotted people. Being black in a white school system is hard, the staff doesn't understand my daily struggles. I couldn't even count the amount of times I've heard the N- word and other racial slurs, and I also can't count the amount of times a staff member has told me that "it's just a word" and "you need to calm down". Because of my experiences I and two other girls deiced to reenstate the high school's African American Culture Club to create a safe space for black students. Senior: Beachwood is a welcoming community that is very diverse and friendly. It is a close community where you can count on your neighbors and everyone looks out for one another. It is they type of community where when you drive down the street, children are playing and waving to someone you pass is common. Beachwood City Schools are an extension of this warm, close knit environment. Beachwood City Schools earned three U.S. Department of education Blue Ribbon Awards, the highest ranking of excellence from the State of Ohio Department of Education. Senior: Hudson is such an amazing community! I have been able to challenge myself academically with the rigorous course options and the variety of class options. The teachers are simply the best, and I feel very prepared for college. I have also been given the opportunity through Hudson to be involved in clubs at the school as well as in the community. Our facilities are amazing, and we as students have a multitude of resources to use at any point. Junior: The Rocky River School District is full of amazing opportunities, teachers, and students. In my time as a student at Rocky River, I have learned not only many things relating to my scholastic education, but also valuable life lessons from doing activities such as cross country. I’ve met tons of people, some of whom I consider to be some of my best friends. Not only are the experiences truly wonderful in the Rocky River City School District, but the educational system is also quite good. I am going to be a senior next year, and I feel as though I am in good hands to help with my transition into college. Senior: Chagrin falls is a great school with many different educational and athletic opportunities. Teachers and coaches are friendly and inclusive with all their students. Students do a great job of supporting each other academically by encouraging those around them and grow better together. Likewise, the students are also athletically supportive by attending home games for pretty much every sport, along with even going to away games for some of the more popular sports like football, lacrosse, and basketball. Chagrin not only offers many different advanced placement courses, but they also have a wide selection of different art classes any student can take. For example, I was able to do three years of ceramics during my time as a student at chagrin falls high school and found that it was a great class. My other friends were able to take classes like photography, digital design, and drawing. All in all, Chagrin Falls Exempted Village Schools are perfect for anyone looking for a good education... Alum: I loved the schools, they offered many different things for everyone ranging from clubs to sports. I was in the marching band and I made plenty of friends. I loved the band because we had the best halftimes, and third quarter snacks. That is only part of my high school career. I enjoyed taking a bunch of different classes with teachers who really cared about you. I would say the only thing that sucks is its a A school so you have to be good at the classes or you'll feel like you wont fit in with everyone. Senior: My experience at Highland has been great! I transitioned to the district in fifth grade from private school. I was welcomed with open arms and everyone helped make my new school experience seamless. As an athlete, Highland’s sports program helped me make friends and get acclimated quickly. The coaches and players embraced me, and I felt part of the team immediately. The sports program and facilities truly rival other outstanding school systems. I feel incredibly honored to be part of this team. I’m also getting a great education. Highland has amazing teachers and staff who pride themselves on putting the student first. Parent: Great city with a suburb feel. My family has been through elementary and middle school in this district and we've loved it. We enjoy the amount of access we have to administrators and teachers when my child needs assistance. We are given great tools to help our daughter at home. Senior: Copley is truly a school that cares about your education. This will be my 12th year in the Copley School District and my experience has been memorable. Copley offers many academic challenging courses, as well as giving you the proper help that you may need from educators to succeed. They also have good activities to get students involved, and feel accepted. They have multiple sports, clubs, and extracurriculars that are fun to participate in. Senior: Overall, it'a a great school. The teachers are likely the highlight, as I had very very few teachers I would consider bad teachers or had poor interactions with them. I felt a bond with most of them and they all seemed like they wanted to teach me something and felt passionate about it. It's also a very safe environment. The school is not tolerant of physical aggression, and the lack of such issues shows how effective it is. In the four years of high school, I spent there, I only ever heard of two while seeing none of them. The sports and extra-curricular are also great, with a lot of money put into them. The biggest issues I would say are the frequent vaping in the bathrooms. As someone who just desires to use the facilities as intended, the ant-like nature of all the students flooding in to puff their nicotine is rather vexing. The teachers in the Olmsted Falls City School District want students to succeed and they put in the time and effort to make that happen. My child has been supported and encouraged at school. I believe that her teachers have given her the confidence and courage to pursue her dreams. She is quiet and shy in a school setting. She doubts herself and her abilities. It was her teachers that got her to speak up, to believe in her skills, to get involved in school activities and to feel positive about herself. Parents can be supportive and motivating but children need affirmations outside of their own homes. Senior: I think Shaker Heights has a ton to offer students. There is a club for everyone to be a part of and find people just like them, and there is a plethora of classes to choose from that cater to many different interests. The teachers are great and also understand what students are dealing with in and outside of school. I do believe that the issues with this school start at the top. The administration doesn't seem to take into account what the kids want or even what the teachers want. I've had numerous teachers express their feelings about issues that the school doesn't seem to care about or are going the wrong way about it. They also don't do a good job of enforcing a good school culture, too many fights happen and when they do happen it just throws off the whole day. Focused students will get the knowledge they need to succeed moving forward in life here at Shaker, but it does seem like there are fewer and fewer of them since my earlier years at the school.... Senior: My experience at Lakewood High School has been awesome! I've always liked to help around the community and be a good hearted person. Having many opportunities with extracurricular activities and clubs really helped with finding things i enjoy doing. I'm in many clubs, including a volunteering club, H20; indoor and outdoor track; Special Olympics, where we get to interact with the MILES students in our school and play sports. Even Medical Office Management which is a west-shore program in our school that can be used for as college credits. The teachers and staff are great and supportive. Overall, I wouldn't want to graduate from any other school. I got honored an award for Student of the Year for following the Lakewood High Schools graduation requirements.
