Junior: I am a junior in Northville High school. I came from abroad and did my freshman year in Northville. The students and teachers were welcoming and they helped me adapt to the new environment and way of life. Despite my language barrier, my teachers and friends helped me develop the English language. The best part of my experience was that I got to know many people through sports and it was easy to connect with them. The worst part of my experience was the start of freshman year because I did not know many people and it was during COVID so I had to stay at home and enjoy my family's company rather than get to know people.... Sophomore: The Plymouth-Canton Community School District contains many great schools and programs. The Salem, Canton, and Plymouth High Schools provide many IB, AP, Stem, and general classes as well as many different afterschool clubs and sports. Each teacher has their own way of teaching, and so far I've had incredible teachers who make the curriculum very easy to understand as well as provide extra help. One complaint I do have is the quality of the bathrooms, most have broken mirrors and I've seen many student vape throughout the day. Senior: Grosse Ile High School is an excellent place to grow your education. The teachers and staff all pursue to see students excel and graduate with a high GPA and goal for your career. Grosse Ile holds and encourages college information and meetings with college representatives as well as offers ways to find and be granted scholarship. I personally would say that Grosse Ile is a great choice when it comes to furthering your education. While your education is becoming higher, Grosse Ile also offers many men's and women's sports to partake in as well as clubs to help interact with the community. On top of this, Grosse Ile is ranked one of the top safest communities in all of Michigan. Parent: As a parent of two LPS grads, I could not be more pleased with the education the district has provided for my children. Well prepared for success in college, they were marketable and found fulfilling, satisfying careers. Senior: My time in RCHS has been both rewarding and lackluster in terms of education. Yes, I did attend multiple AP courses which was lovely and helped improve my GPA to a 4.2, however I really was not engaged with some of my teachers nor in my classes were we provided with recent textbooks. I felt often times I was forcing myself to work on more than I could handle as the school pushed me further and well it did get me to leave my comfort zone, it did often push me into overwhelming territory where I then began to struggle with keeping up on my outside activities in school. APUSH was one of my only classes in my junior year that I throughly enjoyed. I had no problem working my way throughout historical context and found that it was very rewarding that year and in my senior year when I received a five on the exam. Senior: I would say that Allen Park is full of dedicated teachers that are ready to push their students and encourage them to keep learning. The school offers many sports and clubs for students to be apart of to connect the students within the school. There is a whole team of staff always trying to improve things for the students and help in any way they can. If there was one thing that could change I would say that certain classes would be evaluated, because there are times that I was interested in learning a subject, but I was not provided with the tools to do so. I was often handed busy work in those classes, and I would leave the class with no more knowledge when I walked in. Senior: The high school is not as big as other high schools, but that doesn’t stop it from providing many opportunities for students to get involved in and out of school. Alum: Decent educational experience with many choices for extracurricular activities. Vocational programs are available to juniors and seniors. Not a very diverse school which can feel alienating to minorities. Not very inclusive in terms of STEM. At times, it feels like athletics are prioritized over academics. Sophomore: The teachers at Wyandotte Public Schools have been absolutely amazing for my entire experience in the school system! I am especially grateful for the music program. Alum: I attended school within the Clarenceville School District my whole life. I went to preschool at Grandview, went to elementary school at Bostford, and attended the middle and high school. I have many fond memories of growing up in this school system, from being in elementary school and having root beef float parties, to middle school activity nights, to the high school homecoming festivities and games. The district really does work with what they have and tries to do the best for all students, academically and activity-wise. I got a good education that I feel did prepare me for college by teaching me not only the information itself, but also how to study and communicate. The teachers, in my experience, cared a lot about the students and wanted everyone to succeed. During my time in the district, there was not much diversity. Freshman: I've been going to Flat Rock Schools since I was in kindergarten. The teachers are great, and understanding. I've always gotten the help I needed. I am online this year, it's my first time attending online school with FRAVA. And it could definitely improve, but it's still pretty good overall. I wish there was more teacher involvement. Senior: The MelNAP community has always been one that is incredibly welcoming and accepting. There is a large and diverse array of students of many different backgrounds, and none are ever mistreated for it. All are always welcome with open arms and it is something I heavily value from the community aside from the general understanding and kindness everyone has for each other. The staff and school board even make accommodations for the many who follow the muslim faith and participate in customs like Ramadan and holidays like Eid. They take the safety and happiness of their students incredibly seriously, and one can easily feel valued, seen, and appreciated in this district. Alum: When I went here there was a variety of opportunities for academic success. Elementary schools had programs for minorities to improve in areas like speech. For one of the high schools, there were programs that would directly help you with the college application process. Where in the summer they would help you make time to write the best college essay that you could. There are opportunities to attend field trips that provide educational opportunities.
