Senior: Conejo Valley Unified School District focuses on its students and community. It is well known for it's diversity and acceptance of any race, religion, gender orientation. CVUSD keeps all parents informed weather it's by email, phone calls, mailings, and holds open counsel meetings. We approve of the surveys they send out to all students and parents and trust that our voices are being heard and taken into consideration, especially for COVID and most recently the time schedule changes for High School. The last couple of years, it's been great that our schools, with the government's help, provide free breakfast and lunches to all students. I know many friends who benefit from this because their parents couldn't afford to buy lunch for them. Some would bring to school but in lower grades you saw they were teased so that stopped bringing their lunches. Sophomore: My personal experience has been fantastic so far! Even though I am given a lot of homework and schoolwork I know that it is best for me and my teachers are only giving me this work because they care. All the students and faculty are friendly and helpful. My teachers challenge me academically and socially and most of my peers truly have great minds! Although the dances are not perfect, our sports are wonderful and our programs and clubs are fun and interactive. I am in AVID which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and that program has helped me in so many ways! I would like to see more programs added into our school and try to make sure that drugs are not a problem because drugs have always been an obstacle for pretty much every high school. Alum: My experience at Ventura Unified School District was great! The teachers are usually very understanding and knowledgeable. The administration certainly tries their hardest to handle situations with care and in the most efficient way possible. One aspect I would change is to bring back the one-semester Geography classes in high schools, as opposed to its replacement with College & Career classes. Because the College & Career class is required in the freshman year of high school, we often forget what information we gained from the class by the time we graduate (which is when we need it). Additionally, myself and many others younger than me often are confused with geography and where countries are because we were not taught! The College & Career class also did not really help many understand important life skills, instead it rushed us through information about job fields, and making lengthy financial plans for which they didn't give us a very helpful basis.... Sophomore: The school itself is placed in an urban area, giving it more resources and the potential to create interesting clubs and developments throughout its creation. Some field areas like performing arts are less prioritized than traditional academic routes. The overall look and safety of the school are quite secure, including improvements being made as we speak through different meetings and discussions. There is a wide variety of both teachers and students, in terms of diversity and academics, as well as unique paths for a student to take. Counselors and administrators are sparse but have a large hand in projects, productions, and plentiful events over the course of the school year. Senior: OUHSD was an incredibly eye-opening district. Many of my teachers were committed to seeing their students succeed and preparing their students for whatever was to come. On the other hand, there was a handful of teachers who weren't the greatest at preparing students, and often let students walk all over them, which wasn't the greatest thing to witness. Middle School Student: I love how Mesa Union Elementary School District is adapting to the student's needs. They are very supportive no matter what. They are many programs like music, agriculture, robotics, drama, and many more. It is not a school that just moves on through the curriculum to get money. They actually help each and every student move through the education to really succeed in life. I just wish that they had a honors class. They are helping kids who are struggling to catch up, but they don't focus on students who are exceeding the class learning rate. Overall, they are a very helpful community to learn in.... Senior: Fillmore High School is a school with little opportunities, but filled with a wonderful staff and faculty that'll help you reach your goals. I have been grateful to attend the many workshops coordinated by my school to help its students apply to college and file FAFSA. I can tell that this school is trying its hardest to feed its students imagination and creativity with the new amount of classes and clubs. There are, of course, some better teachers than others, but nevertheless, I've learned A LOT in my past three years here and I'm excited to be able to take my knowledge and skills learned here to college to be able to succeed.... Senior: I don't know very much about other schools, but my school was very welcoming and I felt a part of the community. I don't think people take the clubs at school seriously. Also that a lot of tickets and other things were expensive. I know it isn't the districts fault or that they have no control over that. Niche User: Oxnard School District provides many resources as far as transportation, details on which classes have free textbooks, tutors, etc. Whenever I log into my college account right away, I see resources on career exploration fairs or art exhibits. When I open the Oxnard college website, I see a list of free resources starting from counselors, financial aid offices, and so much more.
