Alum: The best part about growing up in a small school district is all the opportunities that are provided. Rather than having to pick one sport, or one extracurricular, I was able to experience a little bit of everything. I was a football and basketball player, I threw shot and disc in track, I was in the all-school musicals, I was in honors band and choir, I was in the vocal Jazz group, and I was president of the national honor Society. It was able to build solid relationships with my teachers, because my class sizes were very small. There are two drawbacks to being part of a small school district. The variety of classes that are offered is very limited, and I had to take some electives online. The population is mainly white, and there are many families that live just above the poverty line. This results in lack of diversity and open mindedness with regards to LGBTQ, different cultures and races. Being very open-minded and left wing, I felt like I was on an island most of the time....
