Parent: What an amazing experience my child has had at this school! 1. Community: My child is excited to go to school. A great deal of that excitement is because there is such a strong sense of community. Whether or not a teacher has had your child in their classroom, they know your child. Each morning begins with Chapel, a time for the entire school to come together and discuss different topics ranging from character-development to world religions. 2. Celebration and Exploration: Different cultures and holidays are celebrated and explored, which not only creates understanding but also an awareness of what it means to be a global citizen. For my family, this is very important. 3. Character Development: While the academic curriculum is excellent, we wanted a place that looks to develop the whole child. Parent: My oldest daughter graduated a few years ago and our youngest daughter is currently a 7th grader. I cannot rate this school highly enough. BEST decision ever to have both of our girls attend this amazing school. My oldest daughter was well prepared for high school and is a leader thanks to the amazing opportunities she received at LDub. The staff (both former and the newly hired who learned from their footsteps) are a highly dedicated crew who truly believe in the school's mission statement personally and professionally. They make awesome things happen for the students. It is magical to watch this transformation happen over the course of middle school for the students... from public speaking, academics tailored to their levels, poetry nights, plays, STEAM fairs, opportunities to meet academic standards through practice and re-teaching, writing support, social emotional learning activities, inclusive sports and clubs. Middle school student: Mercer Island school district does a well job of teaching kids on a multitude of subjects, from electives to music to academics. The district offers opportunities for students of young ages to discover their passions, whether or not it be a musical instrument, a particular sport, or a school subject. For instance, someone like me found a passion for music by enrolling in the district orchestra and was able to continue pursuing that passion throughout my education.
